Shailaputri Homa

Also spelled Shailaputri Homam

शैलपुत्री होम

The daughter of the mountain stands where your path is blocked. Fire is offered in her name, and the stone begins to move.

  • Performed for you alone — never a group ceremony
  • Muhurta fixed from your own birth chart, confirmed within 24–48 working hours
  • Free energised yantra, sealed in a silver amulet, shipped worldwide at no charge

The Ritual and Its Weight

The Shailaputri Homa is a fire offering to the first of the nine forms of Durga — Shailaputri, born of Himavan, the mountain. She is invoked when life has gone still: files that never move, decisions that never come, work that begins again and again and never finishes. Tradition places her at the beginning of every Navadurga sequence for a reason. Nothing else can proceed until the first stone is lifted.

In the Shailaputri Homam, the priest builds the agni kunda, seats the Devi in the flame through her bija and dhyana mantras, and feeds the fire with ghee, samidha and herbs while your name, gotra and birth star are spoken into each offering. The rite does not argue with your circumstances. It asks the Devi who holds the mountain to steady the ground you are standing on, so that effort you are already making can finally find purchase.

वन्दे वाञ्छितलाभाय चन्द्रार्धकृतशेखराम्। वृषारूढां शूलधरां शैलपुत्रीं यशस्विनीम्॥ ॐ देवी शैलपुत्र्यै नमः॥ I bow, for the fulfilment of what I long for, to the illustrious Shailaputri — she who wears the crescent moon as her crown, rides the bull and holds the trident; salutations to Devi Shailaputri.

Why Devotees Book This

Devotees turn to the Shailaputri Homa when progress has stopped and no ordinary effort seems to restart it. This is what the tradition prescribes the rite for.

For obstructed beginnings

When a new venture, job, build or move refuses to start, the homa is offered to clear what stands at the threshold.

For long delays

Paperwork, approvals, decisions and answers that keep sliding forward are placed before the Devi in the fire.

For repeated hurdles

Where the same kind of obstacle appears again and again in different forms, the rite addresses the pattern, not just the instance.

For steadiness of ground

Shailaputri is the mountain's daughter. She is invoked for firmness underfoot when your circumstances feel unreliable.

For resolve that does not slacken

The tradition holds that her worship strengthens patience and sankalpa — the will to keep walking a road that has been slow.

For a settled inner state

As the first Navadurga, she is also invoked at the start of sadhana, for clarity and quiet before deeper practice.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Shailaputri Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

Frequently asked

The Shailaputri Homa is a Vedic fire ritual dedicated to Shailaputri, the first of the nine Durga forms and the daughter of Himavan. She is worshipped on the opening day of Navaratri, before all other forms. Because she governs beginnings and the firmness of the ground beneath a life, the Shailaputri Homam is traditionally offered when progress has stalled — when a path exists but something immovable is sitting on it.
The tradition prescribes this homa for clearing obstructions, dissolving delays, and steadying ventures that keep stumbling at the same point. Devotees also book it at the start of a new undertaking, for strength of resolve during a slow period, and — since Shailaputri opens the Navadurga sequence — as a beginning to spiritual practice. The rite is an offering, not a guarantee; what it gives is sincere worship made on your behalf with your name in every oblation.
Anyone facing blocked progress may have it performed for them — those waiting on approvals, litigation, visas, property matters or job outcomes, those whose work restarts endlessly without completing, and those beginning something new who want the road cleared first. It is also chosen by devotees starting Navaratri observance or a fresh sadhana. At AstroBhava, qualified priests perform it on your behalf; you do not need to travel or fast.
Shukla Paksha Pratipada is the classical choice, and the first day of Chaitra or Sharada Navaratri is the most auspicious of all. Mondays and Fridays are favoured otherwise. Our priests select the muhurat after reviewing your birth star and gotra, keeping the offering clear of Rahu kala. If your need is urgent, the homa can be scheduled at the earliest suitable window.
The priest begins with achamana, Ganapati puja and the sankalpa, where your name, gotra and nakshatra are declared. Punyahavachanam and kalasha sthapana follow. Agni is invoked in the kunda, and Devi Shailaputri is seated in the flame through her dhyana and bija mantras. Oblations of cow ghee, palasha and other samidha, havan samagri, durva, red flowers, akshata, honey and dry fruits are offered through the japa. The rite closes with purnahuti, deeparadhana and prayer for the sponsor.
Book online from any country. Give your name, gotra if you know it, and birth star, and tell us briefly what is blocked. Our priests fix the muhurat and confirm it with you. On the day, the Shailaputri Homa is performed at our Yagna Ashram in Coimbatore and telecast live to you wherever you are. Prasadam and an energised yantra from the fire are couriered to your address worldwide, free of shipping cost.
