Ashta Dravya Maha Ganapathi Homa

Also spelled Ashta Dravya Maha Ganapathi Homam

अष्टद्रव्य महागणपति होम

Eight sacred offerings, one fire, one prayer — that whatever stands across your path be moved aside by the Lord of Beginnings.

  • Performed for you alone — never a group ceremony
  • Muhurta fixed from your own birth chart, confirmed within 24–48 working hours
  • Free energised yantra, sealed in a silver amulet, shipped worldwide at no charge

The Ritual and Its Weight

Ashta dravya means eight substances. In this maha homa the priests offer eight prescribed materials — among them coconut, jaggery, banana, honey, sugarcane, modaka rice, ghee and sesame — into the fire kindled for Maha Ganapathi. Each dravya is a language of its own. The coconut is the ego broken open. Honey and jaggery are the sweetness you ask life to return to. Ghee carries every offering upward. In Kerala and the Tamil country this is counted among the most complete forms of Ganapathi worship, and among the types of Ganapathi homam it is the one turned to when ordinary prayer has not moved the block.

Obstruction rarely announces itself. A file sits unsigned. A proposal that everyone praised goes quiet. A marriage talk stalls at the last step. The tradition does not call this bad luck; it calls it an unopened door, and it places Ganapathi at that door. The Ashta Dravya Maha Ganapathi Homa is performed at the start of a venture, before a move, or in the long stretch when nothing seems to progress — so the first offering of the day is made to the one who is worshipped first.

ॐ श्रीं ह्रीं क्लीं ग्लौं गं गणपतये वर वरद सर्वजनं मे वशमानय स्वाहा॥ With these sacred seed-sounds I invoke Ganapati, the giver of boons — may he grant his grace and make all beings and circumstances favourable to me.

Why Devotees Book This

Devotees turn to this homa when progress has stopped and they want the path itself addressed, not just the symptom.

Obstacles at the threshold

Prescribed in the tradition for vighna nivarana — the clearing of hurdles that sit at the entrance of a plan, a journey or a new undertaking.

Long delays

Sought when matters drag on without refusal or resolution: pending approvals, stalled paperwork, proposals that neither close nor die.

Before a beginning

Offered before a new business, a house entry, a wedding season, an examination or a change of country, so the start is placed in Ganapathi's hands.

Steadiness of mind

The eight offerings and the long chanting are traditionally said to settle agitation and restore the clarity needed to act.

Prosperity in the household

Maha Ganapathi is invoked as the guardian of increase, and the homa is also taken up when the flow of livelihood has narrowed.

Family and lineage welfare

Sankalpa is taken in the names, stars and gotra of the whole family, so the prayer covers the household and not one person alone.

What a Maha Homa is

Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form — more priests, a longer fire, and the complete chanting sequence the rite prescribes rather than an abridged one. This is what that means in practice.

Priests5 or 10Chanting in unison, never in rotation
The fire burnsApprox. 2 hoursFrom the sankalpa to the final aarti
ChantedIn fullThe complete sequence the rite calls for, not an excerpt
TelecastEvery minuteNothing is performed off camera

A Maha Homa is performed for one devotee and their named family, the same as any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering — ten trained voices holding one hymn for two hours is a different undertaking from one voice for an hour, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.

Sacred Timing

Which day is good for Ganapathi homam, and when should we do Ganapathi homam? The tradition gives clear windows, and our priests fix the muhurat against your birth star.

The fourth tithi of each lunar fortnight is Ganapathi's own day. Chaturthi is the most sought-after date for this homa in every month.

Vinayaka Chaturthi (Bhadrapada)

The great annual festival of Ganapathi, when the Ashta Dravya homa is performed in its fullest form.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Maha Ganapathi Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

Who is invoked

Maha Ganapathi — the goddess of knowledge itself

Maha Ganapathi is one of the Tridevi and the mother of the Vedas — the presiding deity of knowledge, learning, memory, speech, music and every art. She is depicted in white upon a white lotus, holding the veena, a book, a rosary and a water pot, with the swan of discernment beside her.

In this homa, her grace — Maha Ganapathi Kataksham — is invoked through fire with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

Ganapathi homam is a Vedic fire ritual offered to Lord Ganapathi, the deity worshipped first in every rite. Priests kindle the sacred fire, invoke Ganapathi into it, chant his mantras and offer ghee, modaka, coconut and other materials. It is performed for vighna nivarana — the removal of obstacles standing in the way of a person's work, study, marriage or venture.
Chaturthi, the fourth tithi of either lunar fortnight, is the most auspicious day, and Sankashti Chaturthi and Vinayaka Chaturthi especially so. Tuesdays and Fridays are also widely favoured, as are the mornings before any new beginning. Our priests confirm the exact muhurat against your birth star once you book.
Sudarshana Homam is a separate rite offered to Lord Sudarshana, the discus of Vishnu, and is not part of the Ashta Dravya Maha Ganapathi Homa. Tradition allows fire rituals in a home only where the kunda, the fuel and the trained hands are all properly arranged. At AstroBhava you do not host the fire at all — qualified priests perform your homa at our Yagna Ashram on your behalf, and it is telecast live to you wherever you are.
At the start of anything: a business, a house entry, a wedding, an examination season, a move abroad. Also during long stretches when work stalls without reason, when paperwork sits unmoved, or when repeated efforts meet the same closed door. Many families also perform it annually on Vinayaka Chaturthi as a standing prayer for the household.
Sudarshana Homam is a fire ritual dedicated to Sudarshana Chakra, the radiant discus of Lord Vishnu, invoked in the tradition for protection and for the dissolving of negative influences. It is a different homa with a different deity and mantra. This page is for the Ashta Dravya Maha Ganapathi Homa, offered to Maha Ganapathi for the clearing of obstacles.
Because Ganapathi is Vighneshwara, the lord placed at the threshold of every undertaking. The tradition holds that nothing is begun before he is honoured. The homa is performed to ask that hurdles, delays and interruptions be moved aside, and that a beginning be made with a settled mind and a clear road.
Offering options for this homa are shown in the booking panel on this page, priced for your country. Choose the one you wish and complete the booking online.
Ashta dravya means eight substances. This maha homa offers eight prescribed materials — traditionally coconut, jaggery, banana, honey, sugarcane, modaka rice, ghee and sesame — into a fire consecrated to Maha Ganapathi. Among the types of Ganapathi homam it is regarded as the most complete, and the ashtadravya maha ganapathi homam is taken up when an obstruction has proved stubborn or when a major beginning deserves the fullest possible invocation.
The tradition prescribes it for the removal of vighnas — obstacles, delays and interruptions — before and during any undertaking. Devotees book it for stalled work and pending decisions, before new ventures and house entries, for steadiness of mind, and for the prosperity and welfare of the household. It is a prayer offered, not an outcome promised.
Anyone facing repeated hurdles or standing at the start of something important — a student, a professional, a business owner, a family fixing a marriage, someone relocating. There is no restriction of age, gender or region. You do not perform it yourself; qualified priests perform it on your behalf at our Yagna Ashram, with sankalpa taken in your name, birth star and gotra.
Chaturthi tithi is foremost, with Vinayaka Chaturthi and Sankashti Chaturthi the most sought-after dates. Tuesday and Friday mornings are also favoured, and any auspicious muhurat before a new beginning is suitable. Our priests fix the precise time against your nakshatra and inform you before the homa is performed.
The priests begin with achamana, Ganapathi puja and the sankalpa in your name, star and gotra. Punyahavachanam purifies the space. Agni is invoked in the kunda and the Ganapathi mantras are chanted with ghee ahutis. The eight dravyas — coconut, jaggery, banana, honey, sugarcane, modaka rice, ghee and sesame — are then offered in order, followed by mahapoornahuti, deeparadhana and prarthana. Vibhuti, kumkum and prasadam are gathered for you, and an energised yantra is packed with them.
Book online from any country using the panel on this page. Send your name, birth star and gotra, and the names of family members you wish included in the sankalpa. Our team confirms the muhurat and sends you the live telecast link, so you can watch the fire from wherever you are. Prasadam and the energised yantra are couriered to your address worldwide, free.
