Not sure which rashi is yours?

Vedic readings go by the Moon sign. If you know “Aries” or “Scorpio” from a birth date, that is usually a Western Sun sign. There is no reliable shortcut from that sign to your rashi, so enter your birth details below and we will take you straight to the right reading.

The sky these are written from

    How to read one

What a daily horoscope can and cannot tell you

Read it by Moon sign, not Sun sign

Vedic readings are counted from the Moon. If you know “Leo” or “Scorpio” from a birth date, that is a Western Sun sign — a different measure entirely, and the two systems also differ by about twenty-four degrees.

There is no reliable shortcut from a Western Sun sign to a Vedic Moon sign. The check above resolves it from the birth details.

    It describes weather, not events

A daily reading says what the day tends toward for a rashi — whether it favours negotiation or rest, whether tempers run short, whether money needs watching. It does not predict what will happen to you, and any daily horoscope claiming to is inventing.

Used as a nudge it is genuinely useful. Used as a forecast it will disappoint, and should.

The longer views are more reliable

A yearly reading rests on slow transits — Saturn, Jupiter and the nodes — which genuinely operate at the level of a rashi. A daily reading rests mostly on the Moon, which moves fast and touches everything lightly.

So the further out you read, the more the reading is actually about your rashi rather than about the day. Yearly predictions →

Where it stops, a chart begins

Everything on this page is one twelfth of the picture. Your lagna, the houses your planets occupy, and above all the dasha you are running decide what a transit actually does to you.

Two people with the same rashi in different dashas will have entirely different years. Generate your kundli →

Why we say a daily horoscope is limited

Because it is, and because most sites will not say so. A reading for Mesha today applies to one twelfth of humanity — hundreds of millions of people. Whatever it says will fit some well, some badly, and most somewhere in between.

What we can do honestly is write from the actual sky. The transits above are real, and the readings follow from them — so when the Moon changes sign the readings change, and when Saturn turns direct that shows up. A great deal of daily horoscope content is generated without reference to any of this, and it reads the same on every day of the year.

And we will keep pointing you past it. If something specific is worrying you, a daily reading is the wrong instrument — the chart and the running dasha are where the answer is. That is a strange thing for a horoscope page to say, and we would rather say it than not. Ask Sarathi where to begin →

What the twelve readings are actually made of

A daily reading for a rashi is a statement about where the grahas stand relative to that rashi today. The Moon does most of the work: it changes sign every two and a quarter days, and the house it occupies from your rashi sets the day’s general temper. The tithi and the weekday lord add to it, and the slow planets — Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu — supply the background that the day is read against.

This is why the same rashi reads differently on consecutive days, and why two rashis read differently on the same day. It is also why a daily horoscope that has not been recalculated is worthless: without the Moon’s position there is nothing to derive a reading from, only a stock of pleasant sentences.

What the method cannot supply is precision about an individual. Everything here is calculated for a rashi, and a rashi is a twelfth of the world. It is the outermost layer of a system whose inner layers — the lagna, the houses, the dasha — are where anything specific is actually found.

    Questions

    About daily readings

Moon sign — your rashi. Vedic astrology counts transits from the Moon, while familiar Western horoscopes usually use the Sun sign. There is no reliable shortcut between them; the check above resolves your rashi from your birth details.
As a description of the day’s general tendency for a rashi, reasonable. As a prediction about you specifically, poor — and unavoidably so, since it applies to a twelfth of everyone alive. We write ours from the actual transits rather than generating them, which makes them honest rather than accurate in the sense people usually mean.
Two reasons worth knowing. Many sites publish Western Sun-sign readings, which are a different system answering a different question. And a good deal of daily horoscope content is not calculated at all — it is drawn from a stock of sentences and would read identically on any date. Ours are written from the transits shown above, which you can check against any panchang.
Yearly, by a distance. It rests on Saturn, Jupiter and the nodes, which move slowly and genuinely operate at the level of a rashi. A daily reading rests mostly on the Moon, which touches everything lightly and moves on. The further out you read, the more the reading is actually about your rashi. Yearly predictions →
Most likely because your chart and your running dasha are doing something the rashi reading cannot see. A supportive day for Mesha means little to a Mesha native in a difficult mahadasha. This is the honest limit of the format, and if the mismatch is persistent it is a sign the chart is worth reading properly. Check your dasha →
Daily, at the start of the panchang day rather than at midnight — the Vedic day runs sunrise to sunrise. So the reading you see before dawn belongs to the previous day, which is correct rather than a delay. More on the panchang day →

Reading twelve horoscopes to find yours?

That is the sign a general reading is not answering your question. An astrologer reads your own chart — the lagna, the houses, the dasha you are running — and tells you what the transits actually mean for you. The fee is credited in full against any ritual you book afterwards.
