A chart returns a great deal at once. This is what each piece is, in the order you will meet it.
The sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of birth. It changes roughly every two hours, which is why an accurate time matters — twenty minutes can shift it entirely.
The lagna sets the frame: every house is counted from it. Two people born the same day with different lagnas have identical planetary positions arranged into completely different areas of life.
The sign the Moon occupied. When Vedic astrology says "your sign", this is what it means — not the Sun sign of Western horoscopes. It is read as the mind and emotional nature, and our daily and yearly predictions are written for it.
It needs only the date and an approximate time, so it stays reliable even when the birth time is uncertain.
The zodiac divides into twenty-seven nakshatras of about 13°20' each, and each into four padas. Yours is the one the Moon occupied at birth.
It carries its own ruling planet, deity and symbol — and it fixes where your dasha sequence begins, which is why it matters more than most single placements.
Vimshottari divides a 120-year cycle among the nine grahas: Venus twenty years, Saturn nineteen, the Sun six. Whichever you are in determines which part of your chart is currently active.

Exalted is a planet at its strongest sign; debilitated its weakest. Own sign and friendly sit between. Combust means too close to the Sun to act freely.
Dignity is not a verdict. It describes how easily a planet can express itself, and several classical rules cancel a debilitation entirely.
A yoga is a specific arrangement the classical texts named and described. Some are auspicious, some cautionary, and most charts hold several of both.
Presence is computed; strength is not. A yoga formed by weak planets operates far less than the same yoga formed by strong ones — which is exactly what an astrologer weighs.
Houses are counted from your lagna. When a planet is described as being "in the 7th", that means the seventh house from your ascendant — the area of life it governs.

A caution worth stating plainly. A house is not a prediction. The 6th governs illness and enemies, but a planet there does not mean either is coming — in several cases it means the opposite, since the 6th is also the house of overcoming. Reading a single placement in isolation is the commonest mistake made with a free chart, and it is precisely what an astrologer is trained not to do.
Planetary positions are computed from standard ephemeris data using sidereal longitudes with the Lahiri ayanamsa — the Indian government standard and the basis our astrologers work from. For the positions themselves there is no meaningful margin of error.
Everything depending on the lagna — the houses, and therefore most interpretation — moves with the time. Four minutes shifts the ascendant about a degree; twenty can change the sign. If your time came from memory rather than a record, treat house positions as indicative.
The calculation needs latitude, longitude and the historical timezone — including whether daylight saving applied that day, which several countries handled inconsistently. Choosing the city from the suggestions is what makes this correct.
It can tell you a yoga is present, a planet debilitated, a dosha formed. It cannot weigh them against each other — and that weighing is the whole of astrology. Treat this as an accurate map, not as a reading of one.

A kundli is a map of the sky at the moment and place you were born — where each of the nine grahas stood, which sign was rising in the east, and which of the twenty-seven nakshatras the Moon occupied. Everything else in Vedic astrology is read from that single snapshot, which is why it is generated once and referred to for a lifetime.
What distinguishes a Vedic chart from a Western one is the zodiac it measures against. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, fixed to the stars; Western astrology uses the tropical, fixed to the equinox. The two have drifted roughly twenty-four degrees apart over the centuries, which is why most people's sign shifts back by one. Neither is a mistake — they are different frames, and this calculator uses the sidereal one throughout, with the Lahiri ayanamsa.
The chart itself is arithmetic, and settled. What is not settled, and never will be, is its reading — which placements dominate, how they interact, and what a period actually brings. That is the work of an astrologer, and no calculator substitutes for it.
