Katyayani Homa

Also spelled Katyayani Homam

कात्यायनी होम

The sixth face of Durga, worshipped since the Gopis prayed for a husband — invoked in fire for the alliance that has been waiting.

  • Performed for you alone — never a group ceremony
  • Muhurta fixed from your own birth chart, confirmed within 24–48 working hours
  • Free energised yantra, sealed in a silver amulet, shipped worldwide at no charge

The Ritual and Its Weight

The Katyayani Homa is a fire offering to the sixth of the nine forms of Durga, the Devi born in the hermitage of the sage Katyayana. She is the one the Gopis of Vraja are said to have worshipped on the banks of the Yamuna, asking for Krishna as their husband. From that story the rite draws its purpose: it is the homa the tradition places before Devi when a marriage is sought, or when an existing marriage needs its warmth restored.

Ghee, havis and specific dravyas are offered into the consecrated fire while her mantra is chanted in count, in your name and gotra. Where charts show long delays, repeated broken talks, or friction between partners, the Katyayani Homam is prescribed as an act of surrender rather than pressure — you place the matter in her hands. Our priests perform it at AstroBhava's Yagna Ashram on your behalf, telecast live to you wherever you are, and the prasadam and energised yantra are couriered to your door.

चन्द्रहासोज्ज्वलकरा शार्दूलवरवाहना। कात्यायनी शुभं दद्याद्देवी दानवघातिनी॥ ॐ देवी कात्यायन्यै नमः। She whose hand shines with the moon-bright sword and who rides the noble tiger — may Devi Katyayani, slayer of the demons, grant what is auspicious; salutations to her.

Why Devotees Book This

These are the intentions the tradition assigns to the Katyayani Homa. Devi receives the prayer; the fruit is always hers to give.

For a suitable alliance

Offered when you are seeking a life partner and want the search guided toward a match of matching temperament and family.

When marriage keeps getting delayed

Prescribed where talks begin and stall repeatedly, and the years pass without a proposal reaching completion.

Harmony between husband and wife

Among the widely cited katyayani homam benefits is the softening of friction, suspicion and cold distance within a marriage.

For Mangal and marital afflictions

Traditionally undertaken when Kuja or Shani placements in the seventh house are said to obstruct settled married life.

Courage to choose well

Devi with the sword is invoked for clarity — the steadiness to say yes rightly, and to walk away from what does not suit you.

Blessing on an engagement or wedding

Families book the Katyayani Homa before a fixed muhurat so the new bond begins under her protection.

Sashti of Sharada Navaratri

The sixth day of Navaratri belongs to Katyayani and is the most sought date for this homa. Devotees asking about the katyayani puja 2025 date are usually looking for this Sashti tithi.

Fridays and Sashti tithi

Any Friday, and the Sashti of either fortnight, are held favourable for Devi worship directed toward marriage.

Kartika month and Margashirsha

The month in which the Gopis are said to have observed the Katyayani vrata for a husband is considered especially fitting.

Your nakshatra or before a fixed alliance

The homa is also arranged on your birth star, or in the days before an engagement, betrothal or wedding muhurat.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Katyayani Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

After it arrives

Our astrologer marks the auspicious date and time to wear the yantra according to your birth details — sent to you in the email carrying your shipment's tracking number.

Who is invoked

Katyayani

Katyayani is the fierce yet maternal sixth form among the Navadurga, born from the accumulated tejas of the gods in the hermitage of the sage Katyayana and therefore bearing his name. She is four-armed or sometimes eighteen-armed, dark or golden of complexion, riding a lion, carrying sword, shield, lotus and trident. While she shares the demon-slaying career of Durga, the tradition isolates her as the particular goddess to whom unmarried women turn when marriage is delayed or obstructed. The Bhagavata Purana records that the gopis of Vraja worshipped her through the cold nights of Margashirsha with the single prayer that Krishna become their husband; that episode has fixed her identity as the granter of a suitable union. She is not a generic marriage deity; she is the one whose own origin story is bound to the longing of the cowherd women and to the austerity of a Vedic rishi.

In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

The Katyayani vrata is an observance kept chiefly by unmarried girls and women praying for a good husband, drawn from the Bhagavata episode where the Gopis of Vraja worshipped Devi Katyayani on the Yamuna's bank asking for Krishna. It is commonly kept through the month of Kartika or Margashirsha, or on the Sashti of Navaratri, with a light sattvic diet, daily worship of Devi and recitation of her mantra. Married women also keep it for the wellbeing of their household.
Bathe, face east, and place an image or picture of Devi Katyayani on a clean cloth with a lamp lit beside it. Offer water, kumkum, yellow or red flowers, and honey — honey is her traditional naivedya. Recite Om Devi Katyayanyai Namah as many rounds as you can hold with attention, then read her dhyana shloka. Close with arati and distribute prasadam. A homa, however, needs a consecrated fire, correct samagri and priests trained in the offerings, which is why the Katyayani Homam is performed on your behalf at our Yagna Ashram rather than at home.
It is a Vedic fire ritual to the sixth form of Durga, in which her mantra is chanted in count while ghee and prescribed dravyas are offered into the fire in your name and gotra. Its significance in the Love and Marriage tradition is direct: Katyayani is the Devi approached for marriage itself — for the finding of a partner, for the removal of obstruction in that path, and for peace between those already married.
The benefits of Katyayani puja and homa, as the tradition states them, are support in finding a suitable life partner, relief from long-standing delay in marriage talks, harmony and gentleness between husband and wife, and strength where seventh-house afflictions are said to obstruct settled married life. Some families combine it with Kushmanda Homa, whose benefits are described in terms of health and inner brightness, when both concerns are present. The homa is an offering of prayer, not a guarantee of result.
Unmarried men and women seeking an alliance, parents praying for a son's or daughter's marriage, couples wanting to restore ease between them, and those told their chart carries delay or affliction in the marriage house. The offerings themselves are made by our qualified priests at the Yagna Ashram — you do not need to travel, fast or attend. You watch the live telecast and receive the prasadam.
The Sashti of Sharada Navaratri, the day dedicated to Katyayani, is the foremost occasion. Fridays, the Sashti tithi of either fortnight, and the months of Kartika and Margashirsha are also favourable. If you have an engagement or wedding muhurat fixed, the homa is often placed in the days before it. Our priests select the muhurat from your birth details and the panchanga and confirm the date with you before performing it.
The priests begin with achamana, Ganapati puja and sankalpa taken in your name, gotra and nakshatra. The kunda is prepared and Agni invoked with the prescribed rites. Devi Katyayani is installed and worshipped with kumkum, flowers and honey, and her mantra is chanted for the fixed count while ghee, samidha of the appropriate wood, havis, til, yellow flowers, akshata, fruit and honey are offered as ahutis. Purnahuti, arati and prayers for the marriage close the rite. All samagri is arranged by us; you send only your birth details.
Book online from any country on this page and share your name, gotra if known, birth star and your sankalpa — the specific prayer for the alliance or the marriage. Our team confirms the muhurat, sends you the link to watch the homa live from our Yagna Ashram, and couriers the prasadam and the energised yantra to your address anywhere in the world at no shipping cost.
