Also spelled Vastu Homam
वास्तु होमThe spirit of the dwelling is fed with fire, grain and ghee — so that what you earn stays, and the walls around you hold peace.
Every plot of land has a presence lying across it. The Shastras call him Vastu Purusha — pressed face down into the earth, held there by the forty-five devatas who occupy the squares of his body. When a house is built without honouring him, or when construction, renovation or long neglect disturbs that grid, the dwelling turns restless. Money comes in and slips out. Work is done but not rewarded. Debts stretch longer than they should. The Vastu Homa is the traditional remedy for exactly this: a fire offering made to Vastu Purusha and the devatas of the site, asking their forgiveness and their consent.
In the Finance and Wealth tradition, this homa is placed close to the root of the matter. Lakshmi is said to be reluctant where the ground is uneasy. So before you chase income, you settle the place income must rest in. Ghee, rice, navadhanya and specific samidha are offered while the Vastu Sukta is recited. Corners are named. The site is asked to hold. Devotees book the Vastu Homa when moving into a new home, after building or altering one, when starting a business at a new premises, or when a household has felt a slow, unexplained drain on its finances for years.
वास्तोष्पते प्रति जानीह्यस्मान् स्वावेशो अनमीवो भवा नः । यत्त्वेमहे प्रति तन्नो जुषस्व शं नो भव द्विपदे शं चतुष्पदे ॥ O Lord of the Dwelling, recognise us and know us; be a welcoming home to us, free of affliction — grant what we ask of you, and be a blessing to our people and to our animals alike. The Vastu Homa is prescribed by tradition for households and businesses where the place itself seems to work against the earning done inside it.
The rite invokes Vastu Purusha so the dwelling becomes a fit seat for Lakshmi, rather than a place wealth passes through.
Offered by families whose earnings arrive in bursts and vanish, seeking regularity and rhythm in what comes in.
Traditionally performed when loans keep multiplying and repayment never quite closes, asking that the burden ease.
Before or soon after moving in, the site is honoured and the forty-five devatas of the grid are given their share.
Shops, offices and workshops are brought under the same invocation, so that trade done there is not obstructed.
The Vastu Sukta asks for a dwelling free of affliction — quieter days, fewer friction points, easier sleep for the household.
