Also spelled Mahalakshmi Homam
महालक्ष्मी होमThe fire is fed for Mahalakshmi — for the ledger that fills, the door that opens, and the venture that finds its footing.
The Mahalakshmi Homa is a fire offering made to Mahalakshmi, the presiding power of abundance in all eight of her forms. Ghee, lotus, grains and fragrant substances are given to Agni while her names are recited, so that what is offered in the fire becomes an invitation. In the older households of the tradition, this homa was kindled when a trade was begun, a shop was opened, a partnership was signed, or a family sensed that effort was going out but little was coming back.
For a business, the concern is rarely one thing. It is the deal that keeps stalling, the client who does not return, the season that stays quiet, the venture that has everything but momentum. The Mahalakshmi Homa is prescribed as a way of turning towards the Goddess with all of that placed openly before the fire. Priests at our Yagna Ashram perform the rite in your name and your gotra, and you watch it live from wherever you are — the sankalpa carries you into the fire, even though you are not standing beside it.
