Vaidyanatha Homa

Also spelled Vaidyanatha Homam

वैद्यनाथ होम

Shiva as the divine physician, invoked in fire — for the body that is tired, the illness that lingers, and the years still to come.

  • Performed for you alone — never a group ceremony
  • Muhurta fixed from your own birth chart, confirmed within 24–48 working hours
  • Free energised yantra, sealed in a silver amulet, shipped worldwide at no charge

The Ritual and Its Weight

The Vaidyanatha Homa is a healing fire ritual addressed to Shiva in his form as Vaidyanatha, the lord of physicians. Where other rites ask for wealth or learning, this one is offered for the body itself — for the strength that has ebbed away during a long illness, for the ailment that returns every season, for the elder in the house whose years you want steady beneath them. Tradition places Vaidyanatha at the source of all remedy: medicine works, the shastras say, because he permits it to work.

In the Vaidyanatha homam the priests kindle the fire, invoke Vaidyanatha into it with his name and with the healing hymns of the Shiva tradition, and feed the flame with ghee, bilva leaves, medicinal herbs and cooling offerings while the sankalpa carries your name, star and gotra into every ahuti. It closes with purnahuti and arati. This is a rite of surrender rather than bargaining — you place the burden of the body before the physician of all beings and let the smoke carry it up.

ॐ श्री वैद्यनाथाय नमः Salutations to Vaidyanatha, the divine physician who is the source of all healing.

Why Devotees Book This

Devotees turn to the Vaidyanatha Homa when the body needs support and the tradition offers a way to ask for it. These are the intentions the rite is prescribed for.

Recovery from illness

Offered during convalescence, after surgery or through a long treatment, as a prayer for strength to return to the body.

Relief from chronic ailments

For complaints that keep coming back season after season, the homa is performed as a plea to Vaidyanatha for lasting ease.

Vitality and stamina

Sought when energy is low and the days feel heavy, to invoke the vigour the tradition calls ojas.

Longevity for elders

Families book the Vaidyanatha homam in the name of parents and grandparents, praying for steady, dignified years.

Support through medical care

Performed alongside a doctor's treatment, never in place of it, as a spiritual accompaniment to the healing you are already receiving.

Peace of mind for the household

When one member is unwell, the whole house is unwell. The fire, the mantras and the shared prayer settle the family's anxiety.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Vaidyanatha Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

Who is invoked

Vaidyanatha — the goddess of knowledge itself

Vaidyanatha is one of the Tridevi and the mother of the Vedas — the presiding deity of knowledge, learning, memory, speech, music and every art. She is depicted in white upon a white lotus, holding the veena, a book, a rosary and a water pot, with the swan of discernment beside her.

In this homa, her grace — Vaidyanatha Kataksham — is invoked through fire with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

The Vaidyanatha Homa is a Vedic fire ritual offered to Shiva as Vaidyanatha, the divine physician. Its significance lies in where the tradition locates healing — not in the remedy alone, but in the grace that lets the remedy work. Priests invoke Vaidyanatha into the consecrated fire and offer ghee, bilva and medicinal herbs while chanting his names, carrying the devotee's sankalpa for health and long life into each offering.
The rite is prescribed for recovery from illness, relief from ailments that keep returning, restoration of vitality and stamina, and longevity — especially for elders. Families also perform it to steady the mind of a household caring for someone unwell. It is a prayer offered in the traditional manner, meant to accompany medical treatment rather than replace it.
Anyone may sponsor it, of any age and from any country. It is commonly booked by those recovering from a serious illness or surgery, those living with a long-term condition, children praying for ageing parents, and devotees who simply wish to safeguard their health. You do not need to attend or perform anything yourself — our priests perform the Vaidyanatha homam on your behalf in your name, star and gotra.
Mondays, Pradosham evenings, Ardra nakshatra, Shivaratri and the beneficiary's own birth star are all considered auspicious. Our priests check the panchanga against your birth details and fix a suitable muhurat, then confirm the date and time with you in advance so you can be present at the stream.
The priests begin with achamana, Ganapati puja and the sankalpa in your name, star and gotra, followed by kalasha sthapana and the invocation of Vaidyanatha. Agni is kindled in the kunda and the healing mantras are chanted with continuous ahutis. The samagri includes cow ghee, bilva leaves, samidha of prescribed woods, medicinal herbs, sesame, rice, honey and fruit. The fire ritual concludes with purnahuti, arati and prayers for the health of the person named.
