Ayush Homa

Also spelled Ayush Homam

आयुष्य होम

The fire that asks for years. An ancient offering for healing, strength and a long, unhurried life — kindled in your name.

  • Performed for you alone — never a group ceremony
  • Muhurta fixed from your own birth chart, confirmed within 24–48 working hours
  • Free energised yantra, sealed in a silver amulet, shipped worldwide at no charge

The Ritual and Its Weight

The Ayush Homa is the Vedic fire rite offered for ayus — the measure of life itself. Its name says what it seeks: ayush homam meaning, simply, the oblation for length of days. The Vedas speak of life as a lamp that can be tended, its wick trimmed, its oil replenished. This homa is that tending. Ghee is poured into a consecrated fire while the ayushya suktas are chanted, each mantra asking that breath, strength and clear senses stay with the person named in the sankalpa.

Households have turned to it at two moments above all: when a child completes a year of life, and when illness has stayed too long in the house. That is why is ayush homam performed — not as a bargain, but as a father, a mother, a spouse standing before Agni and speaking a name aloud. While an ayush homam in temple gathers the family around the kunda, AstroBhava's priests kindle the fire at our own Yagna Ashram in Coimbatore, take your name and nakshatra into the sankalpa, and telecast every oblation to you wherever you are.

ॐ आयुर्दा अग्ने हविषो जुषाणो घृतप्रतीको घृतयोनिरेधि । घृतं पीत्वा मधु चारु गव्यं पितेव पुत्रमभिरक्षतादिमम् ॥ O Agni, giver of long life, delighting in this offering, shining with ghee and born of ghee — having drunk the sweet ghee, guard this one as a father guards his own son.

Why Devotees Book This

Across generations, families have offered the Ayush Homa at the turning points of health. These are the ayush homam benefits the tradition names.

Support during recovery

Offered while someone is convalescing, so that strength returns steadily and the body is not hurried.

Prayer for long life

The ayushya mantras ask Agni for a full measure of years — the rite's oldest and plainest purpose.

Relief sought from long-standing ailments

Families offer this homa when a complaint has lingered for years, placing it in the fire alongside their prayer.

Vitality and clear senses

The suktas ask that breath, sight, hearing and vigour remain unclouded through the coming years.

Protection for children

Traditionally offered on a child's first birthday and on birth-star days after, seeking a sheltered, healthy childhood.

A steadier mind around illness

Watching your own sankalpa spoken into the fire settles the fear that sickness brings into a household.

Sacred Timing

Knowing when to do ayush homam is half the rite. These are the occasions the tradition favours — and our priests will match one to your calendar.

The birth nakshatra

The most classical timing. The homa is offered on the day your janma nakshatra rules, each month or once a year.

Ayush Homam on a birthday

Performed on the tithi or star of birth, most famously at a child's first-year completion and repeated in later years.

During or after illness

Offered when someone is recovering, or when a chronic ailment has persisted, without waiting for an annual date.

Shashti, Sundays and Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Pushya

Days linked with healing and nourishment are chosen when a birth star date is far off.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Ayush Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

Who is invoked

Ayush — the goddess of knowledge itself

Ayush is one of the Tridevi and the mother of the Vedas — the presiding deity of knowledge, learning, memory, speech, music and every art. She is depicted in white upon a white lotus, holding the veena, a book, a rosary and a water pot, with the swan of discernment beside her.

In this homa, her grace — Ayush Kataksham — is invoked through fire with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

Most often on your birth nakshatra, or on the tithi of your birthday. It is also offered during recovery from illness, before or after a surgery, and at a child's first-year completion. Our priests check your nakshatra and suggest the nearest suitable date.
To pray for ayus — length and quality of life. Families offer it when illness has stayed long in the house, when a loved one is convalescing, and at birthdays to ask that health and strength continue. It is an offering of prayer, not a promise of outcome.
Traditionally in the morning hours, on the birth star, on Shashti tithi, or on days ruled by Mrigashira, Punarvasu or Pushya. If someone is unwell, families do not wait for a distant date — the homa is scheduled at the earliest clear muhurat.
Ayus means life span. The rite is offered for long life, returning vitality, steady breath and clear senses, and for support through recovery. The tradition prescribes it for these; it does not guarantee them, and it is never a substitute for medical care.
Yes. The first-year homa is the best known, but many families repeat it in the second year and every year after, on the child's birth star. There is no upper limit of age — adults and elders receive the same ayushya mantras.
The fire ritual generally runs about one and a half to two and a half hours, from sankalpa and Ganapati puja through the ayushya sukta offerings to the purnahuti. You will be told your slot in advance so you can watch the live telecast.
Ayush Homa is a Vedic fire offering in which ghee and prescribed samagri are poured into a consecrated kunda while the ayushya suktas are chanted for a named person's longevity and health. It sits in the Health category of homas.
Qualified Vedic priests trained in the ayushya suktas. At AstroBhava, our ritwiks perform it at our own Yagna Ashram in Coimbatore, taking your name, gotra and nakshatra into the sankalpa so the rite is offered on your behalf.
It is the oldest of the Vedic health rites, addressed to Agni as ayurda — the giver of years. Its significance lies in the sankalpa: a person is named before the fire, and the household's prayer for their life is made audible, witnessed and formal.
The tradition prescribes it for long life, recovery of strength after illness, relief sought from chronic complaints, protection of children, and steady vitality into old age. Devotees also describe a calmer mind through a difficult period of health.
Anyone praying for their own health or for someone dear to them. Parents book it for children, adult children for ageing parents, spouses for each other. You need not be present or fasting — the priests perform it on your behalf and you watch the telecast.
A morning muhurat on your birth nakshatra is the classical choice. Shashti tithi, Sundays, and the stars Mrigashira, Punarvasu and Pushya are also favoured. When someone is unwell, the earliest clear muhurat is taken.
Sankalpa in your name and nakshatra, Ganapati puja, kalasha sthapana, invocation of Agni, then oblations of cow ghee, durva grass, samidha, payasam and prescribed herbs while the ayushya suktas are chanted. It closes with purnahuti, aarti and prasadam.
Book online from any country. Share the name, gotra and birth star of the person the homa is for. We confirm your date, send the live telecast link, and courier prasadam and an energised yantra to your address worldwide, free.
