The Ritual and Its Weight

Surya is the visible god — the one graha you can see burning overhead each morning. In your chart he governs vitality, bone and eye, the father, authority, and the confidence that lets you stand in a room and be seen. When the Sun sits weak, combust by placement, hemmed in by malefics or dimmed in debilitation, the tradition does not read this as ruin. It reads it as a lamp needing oil. The Surya Homa is that oil.

The homam works by the oldest logic in the Veda: Agni carries what you offer to the deity you name. Through measured ghee, wheat, red flowers and the Aditya mantras, the priests place your sankalpa — your name, gotra, nakshatra and intent — into the fire on your behalf. This surya homam is performed at our Yagna Ashram in Coimbatore and telecast to you live. You do not travel. You sit before the screen at the appointed hour, and the fire is yours.

I bow to the Maker of Day — radiant as the hibiscus bloom, son of Kashyapa, of great splendour, enemy of darkness and destroyer of all sin.

Why Devotees Book This

The tradition prescribes the surya homam where the Sun is afflicted in the chart, and where its benefic side needs strengthening. These are the intentions devotees carry into the fire.

Pacifying an afflicted Sun

Offered when the Sun is debilitated, combust in effect, or pressed by malefic aspect — the classical remedy for Surya dosha in the birth chart.

Vitality and inner fire

Surya rules ojas, the body's core warmth. Devotees invoke him for steady energy and resilience through demanding seasons of life.

Standing and authority

The Sun signifies rank, recognition and command. Sought by those facing examinations, promotions, government matters or public roles.

For the father's wellbeing

Surya is karaka of the father. Many book this homa in a parent's name, or when the father's health and fortunes weigh on the family.

Clarity and freedom from confusion

Called tamo-ari, the enemy of darkness. The rite is turned toward mental clarity, honesty of purpose and release from clouded thinking.

Strength during Sun dasha or transit

Devotees begin Surya Mahadasha, Antardasha or a difficult Sun transit with this homam, asking that the period yield its benefic side.

Ravivara belongs to the Sun. The Brahma muhurta and the first hour after sunrise are the classical window for Aditya worship.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Surya Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

Who is invoked

Surya — the goddess of knowledge itself

Surya is one of the Tridevi and the mother of the Vedas — the presiding deity of knowledge, learning, memory, speech, music and every art. She is depicted in white upon a white lotus, holding the veena, a book, a rosary and a water pot, with the swan of discernment beside her.

In this homa, her grace — Surya Kataksham — is invoked through fire with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

There is no single answer for everyone, but three are used most. The Gayatri Mantra itself is addressed to Savitr, the solar deity, and is the highest. For daily japa, the beeja mantra Om Hraam Hreem Hraum Sah Suryaya Namah is the standard one-pointed Surya mantra. The dhyana shloka Japakusuma sankasham is what most devotees recite at sunrise. In the homa our priests chant the Aditya Hridayam and the Vedic Surya Suktam alongside the beeja mantra, so the full spectrum is covered on your behalf.
Surya Kriya is a yogic practice of postures and breath, distinct from the fire ritual on this page. It must be learned in person from a qualified teacher, because the sequence and breath count matter. What you can do as a household practice is Surya Namaskar and arghya: face east at sunrise, offer water from a copper vessel with both hands so the light passes through the falling stream, and recite the Surya mantra twelve times. The homa is the priestly counterpart to that daily offering, performed in fire.
Approach a trained teacher of the practice — it is transmitted directly, not from text. Separately, the simplest devotional discipline for Surya is the sunrise arghya with copper and water, done facing east, followed by the Aditya Hridayam. If your chart shows the Sun afflicted, the tradition adds the surya homam as the formal remedial rite, which our priests perform for you at the Yagna Ashram while you watch the telecast.
The Surya Homa is a Vedic fire ritual in which offerings of ghee, wheat, red flowers and arka samidha are made into Agni with the Aditya mantras, dedicated to Surya, lord of the Sun. Its significance is graha shanti — pacifying an afflicted Sun in the horoscope and strengthening the benefic qualities he signifies: vitality, authority, clarity of mind and the wellbeing of the father. It is one of the nine navagraha homas and among the oldest solar rites in the tradition.
The tradition prescribes surya homam benefits as relief from Surya dosha, strength during Sun dasha or a hard transit, support for physical vitality and steady energy, favour in matters of rank, government and public standing, mental clarity, and blessings for the father. Devotees also seek it before examinations and interviews. Pages describing surya homam benefits in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi list the same classical intentions. The rite is offered as a prayer, not a guarantee.
Anyone whose chart shows the Sun weak, debilitated in Libra, combust in effect, afflicted by Shani or Rahu, or placed in a difficult house. Those running Surya Mahadasha or Antardasha, people in government service, leadership or public life, and families praying for a father's wellbeing all book it. Men and women of any age, married or unmarried, from any country may sponsor the homa. Our priests perform it in your name and gotra.
Sunday at sunrise is the classical window. Ratha Saptami in Magha month is the most auspicious single day of the year for Surya worship. Krittika, Uttara Phalguni and Uttarashadha — the three solar nakshatras — are favoured, as are Makara Sankranti and the monthly Sankramana when the Sun changes sign. Share your birth details when you book and our priests will fix the muhurat and confirm the telecast time in your timezone.
The surya homam procedure begins with achamana, Ganapati puja and the sankalpa taken in your name, gotra and nakshatra. A kalasha is established and Surya invoked, followed by shodashopachara puja to the deity. Agni is kindled in the kunda, and the priests offer ghee ahuti with the Surya beeja mantra, the Surya Suktam and Aditya Hridayam. Samagri includes cow ghee, arka and palasha samidha, wheat, red hibiscus and lotus, jaggery, rice, honey, red cloth and a copper vessel. The rite closes with purnahuti, arati, pradakshina and prayer for the sponsor.
Choose your package on this page and enter your name, gotra, birth star and your intention. Our coordinators confirm the muhurat and send you the live telecast link, so you can watch the fire from anywhere in the world. After the purnahuti, prasadam from the homa and an energised Surya yantra are couriered to your address, free, wherever you live. Everything is booked online — there is nowhere to travel to.
