The Ritual and Its Weight

In Jyotisha, an eclipse is not only a sky event. When Chandra and Ketu occupy the same house in a birth chart, classical texts call it a grahan yoga — the Moon, karaka of mind, memory and emotional flow, standing in the smoky shadow of Ketu, the karaka of detachment and past-life residue. Astrologers read this placement as a chart that asks for shanti: the feelings run deep but diffuse, decisions circle back on themselves, and the inner light seems veiled at the very moment you need it clearest. The Chandra Ketu Grahan Dosh Homa is the fire rite prescribed for exactly this combination.

Dosha Nivarana works by offering, not by force. In the Chandra Ketu Grahan Dosh Homam the priests do not oppose Ketu — they honour him, feed him through Agni, and place a cooling, milk-white offering before Chandra so that the two graha are addressed together rather than set against each other. Grains, ghee, darbha, sesame and the mantras of both planets go into the fire in your name and gotra. Tradition holds that what the shadow has drawn away, the offered flame gives back in measure.

ॐ श्रां श्रीं श्रौं सः चन्द्रमसे नमः । ॐ स्रां स्रीं स्रौं सः केतवे नमः ॥ Salutations to Chandra, lord of the cool mind, and salutations to Ketu, lord of the shadow — may both be pleased and gracious toward me.

Why Devotees Book This

This is a Dosha Nivarana rite. It is offered for the pacification of a specific chart combination — here is what the tradition prescribes it for.

Grahan dosha shanti

The core purpose: propitiating the Chandra-Ketu conjunction that astrologers identify as grahan dosha in your horoscope.

Steadiness of mind

Chandra rules manas. The rite is offered so the mind's light is invoked as clear and unclouded rather than veiled.

Ketu honoured, not resisted

Ketu's offerings are made with respect, so his detaching influence is asked to turn toward viveka instead of confusion.

Restoring planetary balance

Both graha receive their proper mantras, dravya and count, bringing the pair into equilibrium within the chart.

Support during eclipse periods and Ketu antardasha

Traditionally undertaken when transits, eclipses or a Ketu period activate the natal combination.

Before new beginnings

Many devotees book the homa ahead of a marriage, relocation, treatment or venture, so the dosha is addressed first.

What a Maha Homa is

Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form — more priests, a longer fire, and the complete chanting sequence the rite prescribes rather than an abridged one. This is what that means in practice.

Priests5 or 10Chanting in unison, never in rotation
The fire burnsApprox. 2 hoursFrom the sankalpa to the final aarti
ChantedIn fullThe complete sequence the rite calls for, not an excerpt
TelecastEvery minuteNothing is performed off camera

A Maha Homa is performed for one devotee and their named family, the same as any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering — ten trained voices holding one hymn for two hours is a different undertaking from one voice for an hour, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.

Both packages are the same rite. The complete Chandra Ketu Grahan Doshm, all thirty-one verses, over approximately two hours, with the same offerings, the same free energised Surya Yantra sealed in its silver amulet, and the same live telecast. What changes is how many trained voices carry the hymn at once.

Sacred Timing

Our panchanga scholars fix your muhurat and inform you before the homa. These are the windows tradition favours for the Chandra Ketu Grahan Dosh Homam.

Amavasya and eclipse-adjacent days

The days around a solar or lunar eclipse, and Amavasya itself, are classically held as the strongest for grahan dosha shanti.

Monday and Ketu-ruled nakshatras

Somavara for Chandra; Ashwini, Magha and Mula — the nakshatras of Ketu — for addressing the shadow graha.

Ketu hora on Mrigashira, Hasta or Shravana

Chandra's own nakshatras combined with a Ketu hora let both planets be invoked in one strong window.

When the Ketu period opens

At the start of a Ketu mahadasha or antardasha, or during a Ketu transit over the natal Moon.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Chandra and Ketu Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

Who is invoked

Chandra and Ketu — the goddess of knowledge itself

Chandra and Ketu is one of the Tridevi and the mother of the Vedas — the presiding deity of knowledge, learning, memory, speech, music and every art. She is depicted in white upon a white lotus, holding the veena, a book, a rosary and a water pot, with the swan of discernment beside her.

In this homa, her grace — Chandra and Ketu Kataksham — is invoked through fire with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

It is a Maha-tier Dosha Nivarana fire ritual for horoscopes in which Chandra and Ketu sit in the same house — a placement classical Jyotisha calls a grahan yoga. Because Chandra governs mind and emotion and Ketu governs shadow and detachment, texts prescribe a homa in which both graha are invoked and offered to together, so the combination is pacified rather than left unaddressed. Its significance lies in restoring balance between the two, not in removing either.
Tradition offers this homam for grahan dosha shanti, for the clarity and steadiness of manas that Chandra rules, and for turning Ketu's influence toward discernment. It is also undertaken to restore overall planetary balance in the chart, as support during eclipse periods or a Ketu dasha, and before major undertakings. The rite is a prescribed offering — the fruit rests with the deities and your own karma.
Anyone whose chart shows Chandra with Ketu, or whose astrologer has named Chandra-Ketu grahan dosha, may have this homa performed. It is commonly booked by those entering a Ketu mahadasha or antardasha, those experiencing repeated eclipse activation of the natal Moon, and families offering it on behalf of a member. The homa itself is performed by qualified priests at our Yagna Ashram in your name and gotra — you do not need to be present.
Eclipse-adjacent days and Amavasya are classically favoured for grahan dosha rites. Mondays, the Ketu nakshatras Ashwini, Magha and Mula, and Chandra's nakshatras Mrigashira, Hasta and Shravana in a Ketu hora are also strong. Our panchanga scholars study your birth details, select the muhurat, and tell you the date and time so you can watch the live telecast.
The priests begin with achamana, sankalpa in your name, gotra and nakshatra, and Ganapati puja. Punyahavachana and kalasha sthapana follow, then Navagraha aradhana with special emphasis on Chandra and Ketu. Agni is invoked and the homa proceeds with the mantras of both graha and their prescribed dravya — cow ghee, white rice, milk-rice offerings and darbha for Chandra; sesame, kusha and mustard for Ketu. Purnahuti, rakshabandhana, tirtha and prasadam distribution close the rite, and the yantra is energised in the same fire.
Book online from any country on this page. Share your name, gotra if known, birth star and sankalpa. Our scholars fix the muhurat and send you the schedule and the live telecast link, so you can watch the fire from wherever you are. Prasadam and the energised yantra are couriered to your address worldwide, free of shipping cost.
