A note on sacred tradition

Sudarshana is one of the Tridevi and the mother of the Vedas — the presiding deity of knowledge, learning, memory, speech, music and every art. She is depicted in white upon a white lotus, holding the veena, a book, a rosary and a water pot, with the swan of discernment beside her.
In this homa, her grace — Sudarshana Kataksham — is invoked through fire with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

It can, but only with a qualified priest, a properly built kunda and correct fire discipline — the Sudarshana mantra is a weapon mantra and is not meant to be improvised. Most devotees today have the homa performed on their behalf by trained priests instead. A priest begins with achamana and sankalpa, worships Ganapati to clear obstacles, installs the kalasha, kindles Agni with the prescribed samidhas, invokes Sudarshana into the fire, and offers ahutis of ghee, sesame, havan samagri and specified herbs with the Sudarshana mantra. Narasimha is often honoured alongside. The rite closes with purnahuti, aarti and the giving of prasadam.
