Ashta Bhairava Homa

Also spelled Ashta Bhairava Homam

अष्ट भैरव होम

Eight guardians of the eight directions, called into one fire — so that nothing unseen crosses the threshold of your life.

  • Performed for you alone — never a group ceremony
  • Muhurta fixed from your own birth chart, confirmed within 24–48 working hours
  • Free energised yantra, sealed in a silver amulet, shipped worldwide at no charge

The Ritual and Its Weight

Bhairava is the fierce, watchful face of Shiva — the one who guards the gates. Tradition names eight of his forms, the Ashta Bhairavas: Asitanga, Ruru, Chanda, Krodha, Unmatta, Kapala, Bhishana and Samhara. Each is set as a sentinel over one direction of space. The Ashta Bhairava Homa calls all eight into a single fire, so that the protection asked for is not partial. North, south, east, west and every corner between them is addressed by name.

This is a Maha-tier rite, and it is undertaken when the trouble feels deliberate rather than accidental. Sleep that will not come. A house where quarrels erupt without cause. Work that unravels at the last step, again and again. Where the tradition suspects drishti, abhichara or lingering psychic weight, it prescribes Bhairava — not to retaliate, but to seal. The homa is performed at AstroBhava's Yagna Ashram in your name and gotra, and telecast live to you wherever you are.

ॐ ह्रीं बटुकाय आपदुद्धारणाय कुरु कुरु बटुकाय ह्रीं ॐ नमः शिवाय Om, to Batuka Bhairava who lifts away calamity — act, act swiftly for me; salutations to Shiva.

Why Devotees Book This

Among the ashta bhairava homam benefits the tradition records, these are the ones devotees most often name when they write to us.

A guarded perimeter

The eight Bhairavas are invoked direction by direction, so the home and its people are addressed as a whole, not a single person alone.

Relief from drishti

Prescribed where evil eye or repeated ill-wishing is suspected — the fire is offered to draw that residue away from the family.

Against abhichara

The classical remedy turned to when black magic or deliberate psychic harm is feared. Bhairava is invoked as the one who cuts and seals.

Steadier nights

Devotees who report disturbed sleep, oppressive dreams or a heaviness in the house traditionally seek Bhairava's shelter through this rite.

Obstacles that keep returning

Like the kala bhairava homam benefits described in the Agamas, this homa is offered where the same blockage reappears in work, property or travel.

Courage restored

Bhairava is called Bhaya-hara, remover of fear. The rite is undertaken to steady the mind of one who has been frightened for a long time.

What a Maha Homa is

Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form — more priests, a longer fire, and the complete chanting sequence the rite prescribes rather than an abridged one. This is what that means in practice.

Priests5 or 10Chanting in unison, never in rotation
The fire burnsApprox. 2 hoursFrom the sankalpa to the final aarti

TelecastEvery minuteNothing is performed off camera

A Maha Homa is performed for one devotee and their named family, the same as any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering — ten trained voices holding one hymn for two hours is a different undertaking from one voice for an hour, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.

Sacred Timing

Bhairava's hours are the dark ones — the eighth tithi, the waning fortnight, and the night watch. Our priests fix the muhurat from your birth details.

Kala Bhairava Ashtami

The Ashtami of the waning moon in Margashirsha is Bhairava's own day. Kala bhairava ashtami pooja benefits are said to be fullest when the homa is offered on this tithi.

Ashtami of any month

The eighth tithi of Krishna Paksha each month carries Bhairava's presence and is a standing choice for the ashta bhairava homa.

Sunday and Tuesday

Ravivara and Mangalavara are held as Bhairava's weekdays, favoured for rites of protection and for cutting hostile influence.

Bharani, Krittika and Ardra

These nakshatras are traditionally chosen for fierce protective homas. Rahu Kala on a Bhairava day is also used for the closing offerings.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Ashta Bhairava Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

Who is invoked

Ashta Bhairava — the goddess of knowledge itself

Ashta Bhairava is one of the Tridevi and the mother of the Vedas — the presiding deity of knowledge, learning, memory, speech, music and every art. She is depicted in white upon a white lotus, holding the veena, a book, a rosary and a water pot, with the swan of discernment beside her.

In this homa, her grace — Ashta Bhairava Kataksham — is invoked through fire with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

The Ashta Bhairava Homa is a Vedic-Agamic fire ritual invoking the eight guardian forms of Bhairava — Asitanga, Ruru, Chanda, Krodha, Unmatta, Kapala, Bhishana and Samhara — each stationed over one direction of space. Because all eight are called together, the rite is regarded as a complete protective enclosure rather than an appeal to a single deity. It is classified in the Protection and Negative Energy category and performed at the Maha tier.
The tradition prescribes this homa for shelter from evil eye, black magic, psychic harm and lingering negative atmosphere in a home. Devotees also undertake it for relief from fear, for disturbed sleep, and for obstacles that keep recurring in work, property or family matters. The scriptures describe these as the fruits of sincere worship; the homa is an offering made in faith, not a guarantee of any particular result.
Anyone who feels the need of protection may sponsor it — for themselves, for their household, for a business premises, or in the name of a family member. It is commonly taken up when drishti or deliberate ill-will is suspected, when a Rahu, Ketu or Shani period is running, or before moving into a new home. You do not attend. Qualified priests perform it on your behalf at our Yagna Ashram in your name, gotra and nakshatra.
Kala Bhairava Ashtami is the foremost day. Failing that, the Ashtami of the waning moon in any month, or a Sunday or Tuesday, is chosen. Bharani, Krittika and Ardra nakshatras are favoured, and the closing offerings are often timed to Rahu Kala on a Bhairava day. Share your birth details at booking and our priests will fix the muhurat for you.
The priests begin with sankalpa in your name and gotra, then Ganapati puja and punyahavachana. Kalasha sthapana follows, with the eight Bhairavas invoked into the kumbha and into the eight directions of the mandala. Agni is kindled and the Bhairava mantras are chanted with ahutis of ghee, black sesame, mustard, sacred woods and herbs specific to each of the eight forms. A directional rakshabandhana is offered, then purnahuti, deeparadhana and the energising of your yantra. Prasadam and the yantra are couriered to you free, anywhere in the world.
Book online from any country on this page. Give your name, gotra, birth star and the concern you are seeking shelter from. Our team confirms the muhurat and sends you the live telecast link, so you can watch the ashta bhairava homam as it is offered at our Yagna Ashram. Afterwards the prasadam and energised yantra are dispatched to your address.
