Also spelled Sani Homam
शनि होमSesame, iron and black til offered into the fire for Saturn — the slow planet of karma, labour and long patience.
The Sani Homa is the Vedic fire rite addressed to Sani, the lord of Saturday, ruler of Capricorn and Aquarius, and the graha the tradition calls the giver of the fruit of one's own actions. Priests kindle the fire, invoke Saturn in the flame, and feed it black sesame, urad dal, shami leaves and ghee while the Shani Gayatri and the Navagraha mantras are chanted the prescribed number of times. It is a rite of steadiness, not of hurry — the offerings themselves are dark, plain and heavy, matching the planet they honour.
Devotees turn to the sani homam when Saturn is passing over a sensitive point in the chart — during Sade Sati, an Ashtama Shani period, a Shani mahadasha or bhukti, or the year of a sani peyarchi transit into a new sign. Saturn is not an enemy in this tradition. He rewards discipline, honest labour and service, and the homa is offered so that his lessons come as structure rather than as strain. The fire is lit at our Yagna Ashram in your name, and you watch it burn live from wherever you are.
ॐ नीलाञ्जनसमाभासं रविपुत्रं यमाग्रजम् । छायामार्तण्डसम्भूतं तं नमामि शनैश्चरम् ॥ I bow to Sani, the slow-moving one — dark as blue collyrium, son of the Sun, elder brother of Yama, born of Chhaya and Martanda. The tradition prescribes the Sani Homa for these purposes. It is offered as worship, and the fruit rests with Sani.
Where Shani sits debilitated, retrograde or in an uneasy house, the homa is the classical remedy for softening that placement.
Offered when Saturn transits the twelfth, first or second from your moon sign, or when a sani peyarchi shifts him into a new rasi.
Prescribed when matters repeatedly postpone — papers, permissions, property, litigation, long-pending decisions.
Saturn well-propitiated is said to grant endurance, method, longevity of effort and honest gain from labour.
Devotees in demanding jobs, long study or care of elders book this homa for the patience the planet governs.
Sani is the lord of accumulated karma; the rite is offered to lighten burdens carried from the past and from the family line.
Every priest who performs your Sani Homa is trained in a traditional Padashala and personally recruited by Brahmashree Shivaaya — Guru and Head of Astrological & Spiritual Solutions at AstroBhava. Your ritual is conducted at our own Yagna Ashram — never a rented venue — with temple rites performed across our seven temples in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.
Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours.
