Navagraha Homa

Also spelled Navagraha Homam

नवग्रह होम

Nine planets, nine sacred woods, one fire. A Maha homa to soften a difficult graha and let its benefic side shine through your chart.

  • Performed for you alone — never a group ceremony
  • Muhurta fixed from your own birth chart, confirmed within 24–48 working hours
  • Free energised yantra, sealed in a silver amulet, shipped worldwide at no charge

The Ritual and Its Weight

The Navagraha Homa is the oldest planetary remedy in the Vedic householder's hands. The nine grahas — Surya, Chandra, Mangala, Budha, Guru, Shukra, Shani, Rahu and Ketu — are not distant rocks. Tradition treats them as living intelligences who carry the fruit of past karma into the present. When one of them sits weak, combust, debilitated or badly aspected in your chart, its department of life feels heavy. The homa addresses that planet by name, in fire, with its own samidha, its own grain, its own mantra count.

What makes this a Maha rite is that no graha is left out. You cannot pacify Shani and ignore Mangala; the nine move as one wheel. So the priests build nine kundas or nine sacred stations in a single fire, offer to each in the prescribed order, and only then pour the concentrated ahutis for the graha that afflicts you most. This is why the Navagraha puja is prescribed before house-warming, before marriage, at the start of a hard dasha, and whenever a jyotishi points to a planetary period and says: begin here.

May Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu — may all of them make this dawn auspicious for me.

Why Devotees Book This

Navagraha pooja benefits are described in the shastras as relief in the department of life ruled by the troubled planet, and steadiness across all nine. Here is what devotees come asking for.

Peace for an afflicted graha

Extra ahutis are poured for the planet your chart shows as weak, debilitated or under difficult aspect, in its own samidha and grain.

Support through a hard dasha

Traditionally begun at the opening of a mahadasha or antardasha that jyotishis flag as demanding, so the period is entered with prayer rather than dread.

Strength to the benefic planets

The rite does not only soften. It also feeds Guru, Shukra, Budha and Chandra, so their good qualities have room to express.

Before a beginning

Prescribed ahead of griha pravesham, marriage, a new venture or a long journey, so the nine are propitiated before the first step.

Relief from combined doshas

Where more than one graha is unsettled at once, the Navagraha Homa addresses the whole wheel rather than one spoke.

A steady daily anchor

You receive an energised Navagraha yantra and prasadam, so the sankalpa made in the fire stays present in your home shrine.

What a Maha Homa is

Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form — more priests, a longer fire, and the complete chanting sequence the rite prescribes rather than an abridged one. This is what that means in practice.

Priests5 or 10Chanting in unison, never in rotation
The fire burnsApprox. 2 hoursFrom the sankalpa to the final aarti
ChantedIn fullThe complete sequence the rite calls for, not an excerpt
TelecastEvery minuteNothing is performed off camera

A Maha Homa is performed for one devotee and their named family, the same as any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering — ten trained voices holding one hymn for two hours is a different undertaking from one voice for an hour, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.

Amavasya and Sankranti

The new moon and the Sun's entry into a new rashi are classic days for planetary shanti, when the grahas are said to change their footing.

The planet's own weekday

If one graha is the focus — Saturday for Shani, Tuesday for Mangala, Thursday for Guru — that weekday is chosen for the main ahutis.

Start of a dasha or bhukti

The first days of a new planetary period are the traditional moment to begin the Navagraha puja, before the period fully sets in.

Ashwini, Pushya and Hasta nakshatras

These stars are long favoured for shanti rites and are used when the calendar allows a free choice of day.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Navagraha Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

Who is invoked

Navagraha — the goddess of knowledge itself

Navagraha is one of the Tridevi and the mother of the Vedas — the presiding deity of knowledge, learning, memory, speech, music and every art. She is depicted in white upon a white lotus, holding the veena, a book, a rosary and a water pot, with the swan of discernment beside her.

In this homa, her grace — Navagraha Kataksham — is invoked through fire with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

Navagraha homam is a Vedic fire ritual in which offerings are made to the nine planetary deities — Surya, Chandra, Mangala, Budha, Guru, Shukra, Shani, Rahu and Ketu. Each graha receives its own sacred wood, grain and mantra count, with concentrated offerings for the planet troubling your chart.
Yes. Many households keep a Navagraha yantra or a framed image in the puja room and offer a lamp and a simple namaskaram daily. Traditionally the nine are kept in their prescribed grid arrangement, with Surya at the centre, and are honoured together rather than worshipped as separate shrines. The energised yantra we courier after your homa is meant for exactly this.
It is done to pacify a graha that sits weak or afflicted in the horoscope, and to strengthen the benefic planets so their good effects can express. Devotees also perform it before a new house, a marriage, a new business, or at the start of a planetary dasha that a jyotishi has flagged as demanding.
A home Navagraha arrangement is usually a metal or stone yantra plate with the nine grahas in the traditional nine-square grid, or nine small images placed in the same order. You may install it in your puja space, offer water, a ghee lamp and the Navagraha stotram. The fire ritual itself, with its nine samidhas and prescribed mantra counts, is left to trained priests — which is what we perform on your behalf.
Navagraha means the nine grahas: the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and the two lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu. In Jyotisha they are treated as living deities who carry the fruit of past karma into your present life, each governing a department of experience.
As a Maha-tier rite with offerings to all nine grahas in sequence, it runs longer than a single-deity homa. You will receive the exact start time and expected duration with your live telecast link, so you can sit with it from wherever you are.
Shanti means pacification. Navagraha shanti homam is the same rite framed as a remedy — performed specifically to settle a graha whose period or placement is causing difficulty, rather than as a general auspicious observance. The procedure is the same; the sankalpa and the extra ahutis are directed at the afflicting planet.
The fire ritual calls for a properly consecrated kunda, nine specific samidhas, correct mantra counts and priests trained in the sequence — it is not usually attempted by a householder alone. AstroBhava performs it for you at our Yagna Ashram in your name and gotra, telecast live, so the rite is done to shastra while you participate from your own home.
It is the principal planetary fire rite of the Vedic tradition, honouring all nine grahas in a single sitting. Its significance is that it treats the whole wheel rather than one spoke — the nine are propitiated in order, and the troubled planet then receives concentrated offerings. This is why it heads the list of planetary remedies.
Tradition prescribes it for peace in the area of life ruled by an afflicted graha, for support through a difficult dasha, for strengthening the benefic planets, and as a preparation before house-warming, marriage or a new venture. It is offered as prayer, not as a guarantee of a particular result.
Anyone advised by a jyotishi that a planet is weak, debilitated or in a demanding period. Also those entering a new home, beginning a marriage or a business, or who simply wish to keep the nine propitiated. The homa itself is performed by our qualified priests on your behalf — you supply your name, nakshatra and gotra.
Amavasya, Sankranti, the weekday ruled by the focus planet, and nakshatras such as Ashwini, Pushya or Hasta are all favoured. The opening of a new dasha or bhukti is another traditional moment. Our priests fix the muhurat once we have your birth details.
The priests begin with achamana, Ganapati puja and the sankalpa in your name, nakshatra and gotra. Punyahavachanam and kalasha sthapana follow. Agni is invoked in the kunda, and offerings go to each graha in order with its own samidha — arka for Surya, palasha for Chandra, khadira for Mangala and so on — with its grain, cloth colour and mantra count. Concentrated ahutis are then poured for your afflicting planet, followed by purnahuti, aarati and prasadam.
Choose your package on this page and submit your name, birth star and gotra. We confirm the muhurat, share your live telecast link so you can watch the fire from anywhere, and courier the prasadam and energised Navagraha yantra to your address worldwide at no extra cost.
