The Ritual and Its Weight

The Mrityunjaya Homa is the fire rite built around the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra of the Rig Veda — the verse the tradition turns to when the body is weary, when an illness lingers, when life itself feels thin. Ghee, sacred woods and herbs are offered into a consecrated fire while the mantra is chanted in count, each oblation carrying your sankalpa — your name, your star, your prayer — into the flame.

Devotees come to this homa at turning points: before a surgery, through a long treatment, during a difficult transit of Saturn or the Moon, on a birthday when years are being counted with gratitude. It is a rite of asking, not of bargaining. What the tradition prescribes it for is refuge, endurance and the quiet strength to heal. Our priests perform it at our Yagna Ashram on your behalf and telecast it to you, wherever in the world you sit.

ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् । उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् ॥ We worship the three-eyed Lord, fragrant and nourishing all life; as a ripe cucumber is freed from its stem, may we be released from death and not from immortality.

Why Devotees Book This

Across households and generations, the Mrityunjaya Homa is turned to for the body and the breath. These are the intentions the tradition attaches to it.

Support Through Illness

Offered when someone is unwell, as a prayer for recovery and for the treatment underway to go smoothly.

Vitality and Ojas

The mantra praises the one who nourishes and strengthens. Devotees invoke it when energy feels depleted.

Longevity in the Family

Traditionally performed for elders, for children, and on birthdays as an ayushya prayer for long years.

Relief Sought from Chronic Ailments

When a condition has stayed a long while, the homa is offered as sustained spiritual support alongside medical care.

Steadiness in Difficult Transits

Chosen during hard Saturn, Rahu or Ketu periods, and in Ashtama Shani, when the tradition counsels protective worship.

Courage and Fearlessness

The verse asks for release from the fear of death. Many book it simply to steady the mind before an operation or a long journey.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Mrityunjaya Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

Who is invoked

Mrityunjaya — the goddess of knowledge itself

Mrityunjaya is one of the Tridevi and the mother of the Vedas — the presiding deity of knowledge, learning, memory, speech, music and every art. She is depicted in white upon a white lotus, holding the veena, a book, a rosary and a water pot, with the swan of discernment beside her.

In this homa, her grace — Mrityunjaya Kataksham — is invoked through fire with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

Mrityunjaya homam is a Vedic fire ritual in which the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra — Om Tryambakam Yajamahe — is chanted in a fixed count while ghee, herbs and sacred woods are offered into a consecrated fire. It is addressed to Shiva as Mrityunjaya, the conqueror of death, and is prescribed for healing, vitality and long life.
It is done as a prayer for recovery from illness, for strength during long treatment, for longevity of elders and children, and for protection during difficult planetary periods. The verse asks for release from the fear of death and for nourishment of life — that is the intention the homa carries.
Mondays, Pradosham evenings, Maha Shivaratri and your own birth nakshatra are the favoured occasions. It is also performed before surgery, on birthdays, and during Sade Sati or Ashtama Shani. When there is illness, the tradition allows it to be done on the earliest available auspicious muhurat.
Traditionally yes, when a qualified priest conducts it with a properly built kunda, correct samagri and uninterrupted chanting. Many families today cannot arrange that. AstroBhava's priests perform the homa at our Yagna Ashram in your name and telecast it live, so you take part from home without managing the fire yourself.
The sequence is Ganapati puja, sankalpa in the devotee's name and nakshatra, kalasha sthapana, agni pratishtha, then the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra offered in count with ghee and dravyas, followed by purnahuti, aarti and prasadam. It needs a trained purohit, a ventilated space and correct samagri. If that is difficult, booking the homa with us is the practical alternative — you receive the same sankalpa, the live telecast and the prasadam.
It can, with priestly guidance. But the value lies in the accuracy of the chanting and the count of oblations, not in the location of the fire. A homa performed on your behalf by qualified priests carries your sankalpa just as fully, which is why devotees across the world book it with us.
A standard Mrityunjaya Homa generally runs a few hours from Ganapati puja to purnahuti, depending on the mantra count offered. You will be told the scheduled time in advance so you can watch the live telecast.
Srisailam is a Jyotirlinga kshetra in Andhra Pradesh where devotees traditionally sponsor Mrityunjaya archana and homa at the temple. AstroBhava has no branch or counter there. Our priests perform the Mrityunjaya Homa at our own Yagna Ashram in Coimbatore, following the same Vedic vidhi, and stream it to you.
It is the fire worship of Shiva as Mrityunjaya, the one who conquers death. Its significance lies in the mantra itself, a Rig Vedic verse held to be among the most potent prayers for life, healing and fearlessness. The fire carries each repetition, with ghee, to the deity.
Mrityunjaya homam benefits, as the tradition describes them, include support during illness and recovery, renewed vitality, longevity for the family, spiritual relief sought from long-standing ailments, and steadiness during hard planetary phases. It is offered as prayer and never replaces medical treatment.
Anyone recovering from illness or surgery, living with a chronic condition, caring for an unwell family member, or entering a demanding Saturn, Rahu or Ketu period. Families also sponsor it for elders and for children on their birth stars. You may book it for yourself or in another person's name and nakshatra.
Monday mornings, Pradosham twilight, Maha Shivaratri and your janma nakshatra are the classical choices. Our panchanga team selects a muhurat avoiding Rahu Kala and inauspicious yogas. When health is the concern, the nearest clean muhurat is chosen rather than a distant ideal one.
Priests begin with Ganapati puja and punyahavachanam, take sankalpa in your name, gotra and nakshatra, install the kalasha, and kindle agni in the kunda. The Maha Mrityunjaya mantra is then offered in count with cow ghee, durva, bilva leaves, palasha and other sacred woods, honey, milk and herbal dravyas. It closes with purnahuti, aarti and distribution of prasadam.
Book online from any country. Give the name, gotra and birth star of the person the homa is for, and any specific prayer. We confirm the muhurat, share the live telecast link so you can watch the fire from wherever you are, and courier the prasadam and energised yantra to your address free of charge.
