Kalabhairava Ashtakam Homa

Also spelled Kalabhairava Ashtakam Homam

कालभैरवाष्टक होम

Eight verses to the guardian of Kashi, offered into fire on your behalf — a wall of sound and flame around your name.

  • Performed for you alone — never a group ceremony
  • Muhurta fixed from your own birth chart, confirmed within 24–48 working hours
  • Free energised yantra, sealed in a silver amulet, shipped worldwide at no charge

The Ritual and Its Weight

The Kalabhairava Ashtakam Homa takes the eight verses Adi Shankaracharya composed before the guardian of Kashi and turns them into oblation. Each stanza is chanted, each chant sealed with ghee into the fire. Where a stotra recited at home is a prayer, the same stotra offered into agni becomes an act — the fire carries the syllables, and the sankalpa carries your name, gotra and nakshatra with them.

Tradition places this rite in the domain of protection. Kala Bhairava is the kotwal, the watchman who holds the keys of the sacred city and turns away what has no business entering. Devotees who sense the pressure of ill-will, the residue of an evil eye, or interference they cannot name come to this homa to ask for that guardianship. The Maha form is chosen when the concern is long-standing and the household wants the fullest chanting sequence rather than a brief invocation.

I worship Kala Bhairava, lord of the city of Kashi, whose pure lotus feet are served even by the king of the gods, who wears a serpent as his sacred thread and the moon upon his head, the compassionate one clothed in the directions, revered by Narada and the host of yogis.

Why Devotees Book This

The tradition prescribes the Kalabhairava Ashtakam Homam for those seeking the guardian's shelter. These are the concerns devotees name when they book.

A shield against ill-will

Offered when you feel watched, spoken against, or worn down by hostility you cannot trace to a source.

Relief from drishti and evil eye

The classical remedy for the heaviness that settles after praise, envy or an unwelcome gaze on your home or child.

Turning back abhichara

Kala Bhairava is invoked in the shastras against black magic and deliberate harm sent through occult means.

Steadiness of mind

Devotees seek freedom from fear, disturbed sleep and the sense of an unseen presence in the house.

Protection for the household

The sankalpa can name your family members, so the guardianship is asked for the whole home, not one person.

Firmness in disputes

As the lord who upholds dharma and time itself, Bhairava is also approached when legal or adversarial matters weigh on you.

What a Maha Homa is

Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form. This is what that means.

Performed at full scale

More priests, and a fire that burns for as long as the rite itself requires rather than a shortened sitting. The exact figures for this rite are stated with its price above.

Chanted complete

The whole sequence the rite calls for, in unison, never a representative portion of it and never chanted in rotation.

Telecast entire

Every minute, from the sankalpa in which your name is spoken to the final aarti. Nothing is performed off camera.

A Maha Homa is performed for one devotee and their named family, exactly like any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.

Book your Kalabhairava Ashtakam Homa

One rite, one price

There is nothing to choose. Unlike most of our homas, the Kalabhairava Ashtakam Homa is not offered at several priest counts. It is performed one way, as the rite requires — 5 priests, 5 hours — with the free energised Vishnu Yantra sealed in its silver amulet, the live telecast, and free worldwide delivery of your prasadam all included in the one price.

The ashtami of the waning moon each month is Bhairava's own tithi and the most sought-after day for this homa.

Tuesday and Sunday

The two days traditionally given to fierce protective deities, chosen when a matter needs attention before the next Kalashtami.

Kalabhairava Ashtami

The ashtami of Krishna paksha in Margashirsha, marking Bhairava's manifestation — the year's foremost occasion for this rite.

Rahu kala and nishita muhurat

For protection-focused sankalpas, priests often begin within these traditional windows, when Bhairava is held to be nearest.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Kala Bhairava Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

Who is invoked

Kala Bhairava — the goddess of knowledge itself

Kala Bhairava is one of the Tridevi and the mother of the Vedas — the presiding deity of knowledge, learning, memory, speech, music and every art. She is depicted in white upon a white lotus, holding the veena, a book, a rosary and a water pot, with the swan of discernment beside her.

In this homa, her grace — Kala Bhairava Kataksham — is invoked through fire with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

It is a fire ritual built around the Kalabhairava Ashtakam, the eight verses to the guardian of Kashi attributed to Adi Shankaracharya. Priests chant each verse and offer ghee and prescribed dravyas into the consecrated fire with your sankalpa. Its significance in the tradition lies in protection: Kala Bhairava is the kotwal who turns away what should not enter, and this homa is the formal way of asking for that watch over your name and household.
Devotees undertake the kalabhairava ashtakam homam seeking shelter from negative energy, the effects of drishti or evil eye, abhichara and psychic disturbance. It is also taken up for freedom from fear and unsettled sleep, for the safety of a home and its members, and — as Bhairava upholds dharma — when disputes or adversarial matters press on you. The rite is an offering and a prayer; the tradition prescribes it for these purposes rather than promising a fixed result.
The homa is performed by qualified priests on your behalf. You need not have any special initiation or attend in person. It is commonly booked by those who feel persistent negativity around them, families whose home has felt heavy or disturbed, people facing repeated obstruction they cannot explain, and devotees with a Bhairava connection in their chart or family tradition. Anyone may sponsor it, from any country.
Kalashtami — the eighth tithi of the waning moon each month — is the classical day. Kalabhairava Ashtami in Margashirsha is the year's most auspicious occasion. Tuesdays and Sundays are also favoured, and for protective sankalpas priests often begin within Rahu kala or the nishita night muhurat. When you book, our priests set the muhurat using your birth star and the nature of your concern.
The priests begin with achamana, Ganapati puja and punyahavachanam, then take the sankalpa in your name, gotra and nakshatra. The kalasha is established and Kala Bhairava invoked with his shodashopachara puja. Agni is kindled in the kunda, and the eight verses of the Ashtakam are chanted in sequence with oblations of ghee, samidha, black sesame, mustard, honey and prescribed herbs. The rite closes with purnahuti, arati, rakshabandhana and blessings. All samagri is arranged by us at the Yagna Ashram.
Book online from wherever you are. Send your name, gotra if known, birth star and the concern you wish placed in the sankalpa. Our priests confirm the muhurat and perform the homa at our Yagna Ashram in Coimbatore, telecast live to you so you can sit with it. Prasadam and an energised yantra are couriered to your address anywhere in the world, free of shipping cost.
