Guru Homa

Also spelled Guru Homam

गुरु होम

The fire that carries your prayer to Brihaspati — teacher of the devas, keeper of wisdom, dharma and the widening path of your life.

  • Performed for you alone — never a group ceremony
  • Muhurta fixed from your own birth chart, confirmed within 24–48 working hours
  • Free energised yantra, sealed in a silver amulet, shipped worldwide at no charge

The Ritual and Its Weight

Guru Homa is the Vedic fire rite offered to Brihaspati, the graha Jupiter. In your chart Jupiter governs wisdom, teachers, children, marriage, scripture, wealth of knowledge and the sheer capacity to grow. When Jupiter sits weakened, combust, retrograde or hemmed in by difficult company, the tradition does not call it misfortune — it calls it a planet whose voice has grown quiet. The homa is how you turn the volume back up.

Ghee meets fire. The Brihaspati mantra is chanted the prescribed number of times. Each offering is spoken with your name, your nakshatra, your gotra. Yellow flowers, chana dal, peepal samidha — the substances Jupiter answers to — go into the flame in order. What the shastra prescribes this rite for is clarity of judgement, right guidance, steadiness in study and dharmic conduct. Guru puja has been kept alive this way for generations, and the fire is still the oldest way to ask.

ॐ देवानां च ऋषीणां च गुरुं काञ्चनसन्निभम् । बुद्धिभूतं त्रिलोकेशं तं नमामि बृहस्पतिम् ॥ I bow to Brihaspati, teacher of the gods and the sages, radiant as gold, the very embodiment of intelligence and lord of the three worlds.

Why Devotees Book This

Guru homam is offered when Jupiter needs strengthening, or when its benefic gaze needs to reach further into your life. These are the intentions devotees bring to the fire.

Pacifying an afflicted Jupiter

When Jupiter is debilitated, combust or under difficult aspect, the homa is the traditional remedy — offered to settle the graha and restore its natural generosity.

Clarity and right judgement

Brihaspati is buddhi itself. Devotees facing a decision they cannot see through offer this homa to ask for a clear head and a dharmic choice.

Studies, teaching and scripture

Students sitting examinations, scholars, teachers and those beginning spiritual study invoke Guru for steadiness of mind and retention of what is learned.

Marriage and progeny prayers

Jupiter rules the fifth and seventh significations in classical practice. Families offer guru puja when praying for a suitable alliance or for children.

Guidance and the right teacher

The rite is offered by those seeking a guru, a mentor or elders whose counsel can be trusted at a turning point in life.

Guru Chandal and Guru transit periods

During Guru Chandal yoga, Jupiter mahadasha or antardasha, and difficult Guru transits, devotees book this homa to soften the pressure and draw out Jupiter's benefic side.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Brihaspati Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

After it arrives

How to wear your energised Brihaspati Yantra

The energised yantra is carefully rolled and sealed inside a sacred silver amulet before shipping. Wearing it is itself a small ritual — and even its timing is set for you personally.

Our astrologer marks the auspicious date and time to wear the yantra according to your birth details — sent to you in the email carrying your shipment's tracking number.

Who is invoked

Brihaspati — the goddess of knowledge itself

Brihaspati is one of the Tridevi and the mother of the Vedas — the presiding deity of knowledge, learning, memory, speech, music and every art. She is depicted in white upon a white lotus, holding the veena, a book, a rosary and a water pot, with the swan of discernment beside her.

In this homa, her grace — Brihaspati Kataksham — is invoked through fire with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

If you mean AstroBhava's home-based service, yes — nothing enters your home but prasadam and an energised yantra sent by courier. The fire itself is lit at our Yagna Ashram in Coimbatore, tended by qualified priests, and telecast live to you. You never host a fire, never travel, and never share more than your name, gotra and birth star.
AstroBhava's Guru Homa is a real fire ritual, performed for you and streamed as it happens, so you can watch your own sankalpa being spoken. Your name, nakshatra and gotra are pronounced at the altar. Prasadam from that same fire is couriered to you afterwards, wherever in the world you are, at no extra cost.
You book on AstroBhava's website from any country — no separate app is needed. We ask only for the details a priest requires for the sankalpa: your name, gotra if you know it, birth star and the intention behind the homa. Nothing more is collected, and nothing is used beyond the ritual and your delivery.
For the graha Brihaspati, the classical navagraha verse is the guru mantra: Om devanam cha rishinam cha gurum kanchana-sannibham, buddhi-bhutam trilokesham tam namami brihaspatim. The beeja form chanted in homa is Om Gram Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namah. Separately, seekers often search for the Sree Narayana Guru homa mantra and other sampradaya-specific guru vandanas — those belong to their own lineages, while the mantras above are the ones offered in this Vedic Guru Homa.
No chart combination is a curse. Guru Chandal yoga forms when Jupiter and Rahu occupy the same house, and the tradition reads it as Jupiter's counsel being coloured by Rahu's restlessness — unconventional thinking, teachers questioned, judgement pulled in two directions. Many strong charts carry it. Guru Homa is exactly the remedy the shastra prescribes for this period: it is offered to steady Jupiter's voice so its benefic side speaks louder.
Guru Homa, also written guru homam, is the Vedic fire offering to Brihaspati, presiding deity of the planet Jupiter. Jupiter signifies wisdom, teachers, dharma, children, marriage and expansion. The homa is offered to propitiate this graha when it is weak or afflicted in a horoscope, and to draw its benefic influence more fully into the areas of life it governs.
Among the guru homam benefits the tradition names: pacification of an afflicted or debilitated Jupiter, clarity of judgement, steadiness in study and teaching, prayers for marriage and progeny, the finding of trustworthy guidance, and support through Guru Chandal yoga, Jupiter dasha and difficult Guru transits. The rite is what the shastra prescribes for these intentions; it is offered in faith, not as a promised outcome.
Those with Jupiter afflicted, debilitated in Capricorn, combust, retrograde or conjunct Rahu; anyone running a Jupiter mahadasha or antardasha; students and teachers; families praying for an alliance or for children; and seekers who want their spiritual study to hold. At AstroBhava the homa is performed on your behalf by qualified priests — you watch the live telecast, you do not need to be present.
Thursday, Jupiter's own weekday, is the standard choice, best in the morning during the Guru hora. The nakshatras Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada are especially favoured. Guru Purnima, Guru Peyarchi and the opening of a Jupiter dasha are traditional occasions. Our priests match the panchanga to your birth details and confirm the muhurat with you before the rite.
The priests begin with achamana, Ganapati puja and punyahavachana, then the sankalpa in which your name, gotra and nakshatra are spoken. Agni is invoked in the kunda. Brihaspati is installed and honoured with guru puja. The Jupiter mantra is chanted with ghee, peepal samidha, chana dal, yellow flowers, turmeric and the prescribed havan dravya offered into the flame. The rite closes with purnahuti, aarti and prayer for shanti. Prasadam and the energised yantra are then packed and couriered to you.
Book from this page, from any country. Share your name, gotra if known, birth star and your intention for the homa. We fix an auspicious muhurat, send you the live telecast link so you can watch the fire from wherever you are, and courier the prasadam and energised yantra to your address free of charge.
