Hora schedule for 30 July 2026

The day is divided into twenty-four horas, each ruled by one of the seven visible grahas in a fixed repeating order. It is among the simplest timing tools in the tradition and among the most used — because unlike a muhurta, it needs nothing but the date and your location, and there is always a suitable hora coming within a few hours.

✓ Always free ✓ No birth details needed Day & night sequence What each hora favours

A hora is not sixty minutes. Daylight is divided into twelve and night into twelve, so a day hora in summer is longer than an hour and a night hora shorter — and the reverse in winter. Anything showing clean hourly blocks is not calculating horas. How they are derived →

Calculated guidance for 30 July 2026

Match the undertaking to its planetary hour; there is no single best hora.

The Thursday sequence begins from local sunrise. Guru suits counsel and learning, Shukra relationships and purchases, Budha accounts and communication, and Chandra travel or domestic matters. Fierce horas remain useful only when the task itself needs authority, force or endurance.

  • Guru 6:13 AM–7:16 AM: Learning, counsel, finance
  • Shukra 9:21 AM–10:23 AM: Marriage talks, purchases, the arts
  • Budha 10:23 AM–11:26 AM: Correspondence, accounts, travel
  • Chandra 11:26 AM–12:28 PM: Travel, meeting people, the home

Take care: The day's Rahu Kalam is 2:02 PM–3:36 PM; do not treat a preferred slot that overlaps it as an override.

The reading is derived from the selected city's calculated schedule. It is not a personal prediction and does not replace a purpose-specific muhurta.

The seven horas

What each planetary hour favours

Each hora carries the character of its ruling graha. These are the classical associations — used to choose when within a day, once the day itself has been judged suitable.

HoraNatureFavourable forBetter avoided for
Surya — SunFierceApproaching authority, government matters, medical treatment, positions of standingMarriage talks, borrowing, anything requiring softness
Chandra — MoonGentleTravel, meeting people, matters concerning water, the mother, or the homeUndertakings needing firmness or a fixed decision
Mangal — MarsFierceCourage, litigation, property, surgery, anything requiring forceMarriage, agreements, starting a partnership
Budha — MercuryMixedCorrespondence, accounts, study, short travel, negotiation, teachingNothing specifically — the most generally usable hora
Guru — JupiterBeneficLearning, counsel, financial matters, religious acts, approaching eldersNothing specifically — among the most auspicious
Shukra — VenusBeneficMarriage talks, purchases, the arts, comfort and pleasure, jewelleryAustere or ascetic undertakings
Shani — SaturnFierceLabour, long-term work, iron and machinery, matters requiring enduranceBeginnings of any auspicious kind, travel, celebration

Guru, Shukra, Budha and Chandra horas are the generally favourable ones. Surya, Mangal and Shani are read as fierce — not useless, but suited to matters that themselves require force, authority or endurance. Choosing a Shani hora for a wedding conversation would be as mistaken as choosing a Shukra hora for a court appearance.

How horas are derived

The sequence, and why the weekday is named after it

Twelve by day, twelve by night

Daylight is divided into twelve equal parts and night into twelve — so a hora is only sixty minutes at the equinox. In summer a day hora runs longer and a night hora shorter, and in winter the reverse. At high latitudes the difference is considerable.

This is why a hora table must be calculated for your location. Anything showing clean hourly blocks from midnight is not showing horas.

The order never changes

The sequence runs Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars — then repeats. It is the Chaldean order, arranged by apparent orbital speed from slowest to fastest, and it has been used unchanged for well over two thousand years.

The first hora after sunrise belongs to the lord of that weekday, and the rest follow in order from there.

Why Tuesday follows Monday

Twenty-four horas divided by seven leaves three, so counting twenty-four places forward in the sequence lands three positions on — which is exactly the order of the weekdays. Sunday’s first hora is the Sun’s; twenty-four horas later, Monday’s first is the Moon’s.

The naming of the days of the week in almost every language derives from this. It is the same system, and it is older than the calendar it produced.

Where a hora fits among the timing tools

It is the finest and the least weighty. A muhurta is chosen from the panchang; the choghadiya narrows within the day; the hora narrows further. None of them overrides the one above.

For an ordinary matter — a phone call, a purchase, sending something important — a hora alone is what most people use, and that is what it is for.

The first hora of each weekday

Always the lord of the day itself, beginning at local sunrise. Everything else follows from it in the fixed sequence.

WeekdaySanskritFirst hora at sunrise13th hora — roughly sunset
SundayRavivaraSuryaGuru
MondaySomavaraChandraShukra
TuesdayMangalavaraMangalShani
WednesdayBudhavaraBudhaSurya
ThursdayGuruvaraGuruChandra
FridayShukravaraShukraMangal
SaturdayShanivaraShaniBudha

A hora of the day’s own lord is considered strongest. A Guru hora on a Thursday, or a Shukra hora on a Friday, carries more weight than the same hora on another day — which is why Thursday mornings are chosen for beginning study and Friday evenings for matters of marriage and comfort.

What a hora is worth

It is the lightest of the timing tools, and it is meant to be. A hora is roughly an hour long and recurs every seven hours, so a favourable one is never far away. That is precisely its usefulness — it lets you time an ordinary matter sensibly without consulting anyone. It is not a substitute for a muhurta and was never treated as one.

Nothing of consequence should rest on it alone. A marriage, a griha pravesh, a business inauguration or a ritual is timed from the panchang and from the charts of the people involved. A Shukra hora does not make an otherwise unsuitable day suitable, and no hora overrides the day it sits in.

And a fierce hora is not a bad hour. Surya, Mangal and Shani horas are the right choices for matters that themselves require authority, force or endurance. Reading them as periods to hide from misunderstands the system — they are specific, not adverse.

The oldest surviving hour

The hora system predates almost everything else in practical astrology. Its sequence — Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars — is the Chaldean order, planets arranged by their apparent speed against the stars, and it was in use in Mesopotamia before it reached India. The Sanskrit word hora and the Greek hora and the English hour are the same word, carried along the same route.

What makes it remarkable is that the seven-day week exists because of it. Assign the first hour of a day to a planet, run the sequence through twenty-four hours, and the next day begins three places along — which produces exactly the order Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Every language that names its weekdays after planets or their deities is preserving a hora calculation, whether or not anyone remembers why.

In practice it remains what it always was: a way of choosing a reasonable hour for an ordinary undertaking. Light, quick to consult, and never intended to carry the weight of a decision that deserves a proper muhurta.

Questions

About horas

Only at the equinox. Daylight is divided into twelve parts and night into twelve, so in summer a day hora runs longer than sixty minutes and a night hora shorter — reversed in winter, and the gap widens the further you are from the equator. Any table showing clean hourly blocks from midnight is not calculating horas at all.
Guru is the general answer, then Shukra, Budha and Chandra. But the better question is what you are starting: Mangal for anything requiring force or a dispute, Surya for approaching authority, Shani for work meant to endure. A hora is chosen to match the undertaking rather than for general auspiciousness.
No. The timing tools are hierarchical — the panchang judges the day, the choghadiya and hora narrow within it, and nothing narrower overrides something broader. If Rahu Kalam is running, a Guru hora inside it does not clear the period. Check the day first →
It is the Chaldean order — the seven visible grahas arranged by apparent orbital speed, slowest to fastest: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon. Horas run through it cyclically. Because twenty-four divided by seven leaves three, each day begins three places along, which is exactly how the seven-day week came to be ordered as it is.
Not on its own. Anything of consequence is timed from the panchang, the excluded months, whether Venus or Jupiter is combust, and the charts of the people involved — a hora is far too light to carry that. Our priests calculate muhurtas individually. Muhurat Finder →
No. Only the seven visible grahas rule horas — the system is built on what could be seen moving against the stars, and the nodes are calculated points rather than bodies. Any hora table listing Rahu or Ketu is not following the classical system.
The city, almost always. Horas run from local sunrise and their length depends on how long daylight is where you are — so a hora table for Delhi is simply wrong in Chennai, and badly wrong abroad. Set the location above and everything recalculates.

A hora chooses an hour. A muhurta chooses a moment.

For anything that matters — a marriage, a housewarming, an inauguration, a ritual — the timing is calculated from the panchang and from the charts of the people involved, not from a planetary hour. Our astrologers do that individually, and the fee is credited in full against any ritual you book.
