Shanthi Homa

Also spelled Shanthi Homam

शान्ति होम

The Vedas end every prayer with one word — shanti. This Maha homa carries that word into fire on your behalf, three times over.

  • Performed for you alone — never a group ceremony
  • Muhurta fixed from your own birth chart, confirmed within 24–48 working hours
  • Free energised yantra, sealed in a silver amulet, shipped worldwide at no charge

The Ritual and Its Weight

The Shanthi Homa is the oldest wish of the Vedic seers, offered as fire. Where other rites ask for a specific thing, the shanthi homam asks that the whole field around you grow quiet — the sky above you, the earth beneath you, the waters, the plants, the words you speak, the thoughts you have not yet spoken. The Shanti Suktas are chanted into the flame with ghee, and each oblation ends with the triple shanti: for troubles that come from the heavens, from the world around you, and from within your own mind.

Devotees turn to this homa when life is not broken so much as unsettled — when japa will not hold, when sleep is thin, when a house feels heavy, when devotion has gone dry. The tradition does not treat peace as an absence of noise. It treats peace as a presence, something invoked, seated and fed. That is why the rite is performed in the Maha form: longer chanting, fuller samagri, and the Shanti mantras repeated until the fire itself grows calm and steady.

May the heavens be at peace, the sky at peace, the earth, the waters, the herbs and the great trees at peace; may all the gods and the Absolute itself be peace, may everything be peace, may peace alone be peace — and may that peace come to rest in me.

Why Devotees Book This

The shanthi homa is prescribed in the tradition for the seeker whose inner ground needs settling before anything else can grow on it.

Stillness of Mind

The triple shanti is offered for the quieting of adhyatmika unrest — the restlessness that rises from within, unprompted by anything outside you.

A Settled Home

Families book this homa when a house feels tense or unsettled, so that the dwelling and all who live in it are placed under the Shanti mantras.

Steadier Sadhana

When japa slips, when the seat feels dry, this rite is offered to return warmth and continuity to your daily practice.

Grace Before Beginnings

Prescribed before a new house, a new venture, a marriage or a long journey, so that what you start rests on quiet ground.

Softening of Obstruction

The Shanti Suktas are traditionally offered to pacify the disturbances that block a devotee's path, without naming any one of them.

Devotion Made Simple

Many devotees describe the shanthi homam as clearing the noise between them and the Ishta Devata, leaving prayer uncomplicated again.

What a Maha Homa is

Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form — more priests, a longer fire, and the complete chanting sequence the rite prescribes rather than an abridged one. This is what that means in practice.

Priests5 or 10Chanting in unison, never in rotation

TelecastEvery minuteNothing is performed off camera

A Maha Homa is performed for one devotee and their named family, the same as any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering — ten trained voices holding one hymn for two hours is a different undertaking from one voice for an hour, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Shanthi Devi Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

Who is invoked

Shanthi Devi — the goddess of knowledge itself

Shanthi Devi is one of the Tridevi and the mother of the Vedas — the presiding deity of knowledge, learning, memory, speech, music and every art. She is depicted in white upon a white lotus, holding the veena, a book, a rosary and a water pot, with the swan of discernment beside her.

In this homa, her grace — Shanthi Devi Kataksham — is invoked through fire with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

The Shanthi Homa is a Vedic fire rite in which the Shanti Suktas — the peace invocations of the Veda — are offered into the flame with ghee and sacred samagri. Its significance lies in its scope: rather than asking for one thing, it asks that the heavens, the earth, the waters, the herbs, the deities and your own mind all come to rest. The rite closes each round with the triple shanti, addressed to disturbance from above, from around you, and from within.
The tradition prescribes the shanthi homam for inner stillness, a settled household, steadiness in daily sadhana, and the softening of the unrest that obstructs a devotee's path. It is also offered as a benediction before new beginnings. These are the purposes the shastras assign to the rite; the fruit of any homa rests with the deity and with your own continued practice.
Any devotee may have it performed — there is no restriction of star, age or lineage. It is commonly chosen by those whose mind feels unquiet, whose home or family life feels tense, whose spiritual practice has gone dry, or who are standing at the edge of a large change. Families often book it jointly, with all members' names and nakshatras included in the sankalpa. At AstroBhava, qualified priests perform it on your behalf at our Yagna Ashram; you do not need to travel or fast.
Purnima, the Pushya, Anuradha and Revati nakshatras, and the return of your own janma nakshatra are all classical choices, as are the days immediately before a griha pravesham, marriage or new venture. The homa is begun in the morning hours after the sankalpa. Share your birth details when you book and our priests will select the muhurat for you.
The priests begin with achamana, Ganapati puja and punyahavachana, then take the sankalpa in your name, gotra and nakshatra. The kunda is prepared, Agni is invoked, and the Shanti Suktas along with the presiding mantras are chanted through the oblations. Samagri includes cow ghee, samidha of palasha and other prescribed woods, havan dravya, black and white sesame, rice, navadhanya, honey and fragrant herbs. The rite closes with purnahuti, the waving of deepa aradhana, and the final triple shanti. Your yantra is energised in the same fire.
Book online from any country. Enter your name, gotra and birth star, and add family members if you wish them included in the sankalpa. Our priests confirm the muhurat and perform the shanthi homa at our Yagna Ashram, telecast live to you wherever you are. Afterwards, the prasadam and the energised yantra are couriered to your address worldwide, free of shipping cost.
