The Ritual and Its Weight

The Lingashtakam is one of the most loved hymns in the Shaiva tradition. Eight verses, each ending with the same surrender — pranamami sadashivalingam, I bow to that eternally auspicious Linga. In the Lingashtakam Homa, those verses are not merely recited. They are offered. Each stanza is carried into the fire with ghee and sacred wood, so that the praise you cannot always hold in your own heart is held for you in flame.

The Linga is the form of the formless — Shiva without beginning, without end, without attribute. Devotees turn to this homa when the inner life feels dry, when japa has become mechanical, when the mind will not sit still. The tradition prescribes the Lingashtakam homam for bhakti, for burning away the residue of ego and old habit, and for the quiet grace that Shiva is said to grant those who simply keep bowing. Pradosham

The twilight of the thirteenth tithi, twice each lunar month. The most classical hour for Linga worship and hymns of praise.

Maha Shivaratri

The great night of Shiva in Phalguna. The hymn is chanted through the watches; a Maha homa on this day carries particular weight.

Mondays and Ardra Nakshatra

Somavara belongs to Shiva, and Ardra is his star. Both are chosen for sustained Lingashtakam recitation.

Karthigai and Shravana Mondays

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. How to wear your energised Shiva Yantra

The energised yantra is carefully rolled and sealed inside a sacred silver amulet before shipping. Wearing it is itself a small ritual — and even its timing is set for you personally.

Purify the amulet

Dip the silver amulet in raw milk or Ganga jal for an hour before wearing, then clean with normal water.

Face East or North

Perform the wearing process facing east or north for maximum benefit.

Sankalpa

The priest states your name, gotra and nakshatra — and those of up to five family members — with the intention this homa is performed for.

Ganapati Puja

The customary invocation to Ganapati, clearing obstacles before the goddess is approached.

Agni Pratishtha

The fire is consecrated in the homa kunda and Agni invoked as the carrier of every offering that follows.

Shiva Avahana

The Shiva Sukta and Shiva Gayatri are chanted, inviting the goddess's presence into the fire — by one, three or five priests as your package sets.

Ahuti

Ghee, white flowers, akshata and honey are offered in sequence with mantra — the offerings traditional to her worship.

Purnahuti

The final complete offering seals the sankalpa stated at the opening.

The Lingashtakam Homa is a fire ritual built around the Lingashtakam, an eight-verse Sanskrit hymn in praise of the Shiva Linga. Each verse describes the Linga — worshipped by Brahma and Vishnu, radiant, free of sorrow, adorned with fragrance and flowers — and closes with the words pranamami sadashivalingam, 'I bow to that eternally auspicious Linga.' In the homa, priests chant these verses with oblations of ghee, bilva and sacred wood into a consecrated fire. Its significance lies in its simplicity: it is praise and prostration, nothing else. The tradition places it among the most accessible ways to turn the heart toward Shiva.

Pradosham, the twilight of the thirteenth tithi, is the classical hour for Linga worship. Maha Shivaratri is the most powerful single night. Mondays, Ardra nakshatra, and the Mondays of Karthigai and Shravana are all favoured. If your need is immediate, our priests will fix a suitable muhurat from the panchanga rather than have you wait.

The priests begin with achamana, Ganapati puja and a sankalpa taken in your name, gotra and nakshatra. A kalasha is established and the Shiva Linga is bathed and worshipped with abhishekam and bilva leaves. Agni is invoked and fed. The eight verses of the Lingashtakam are then chanted in prescribed rounds, each closing verse accompanied by svaha and an oblation. Samagri includes cow ghee, bilva leaves, samidha of palasha and other prescribed woods, black sesame, rice, honey, camphor, sandal, vibhuti and seasonal flowers. The rite concludes with purnahuti, arati and distribution of vibhuti prasadam.
