The Ritual and Its Weight

The Arudra Nakshatra Homa is the fire rite offered for the sixth nakshatra of the zodiac, the star of the teardrop, whose presiding deity is Rudra. In the older reckoning, your birth star is not a label — it is a doorway. Once a year, and at the turns of a dasha, that doorway is honoured with ghee, samidha and the nakshatra mantras, so that the energy you were born under moves with you rather than against you.

Arudra is a star of transformation. It breaks what is stale and clears ground for what is new, and that force is best received with reverence rather than resistance. This homam asks Rudra to carry his fierceness as protection — to guard the household, steady the mind, and let effort ripen into prosperity. Priests at our Yagna Ashram perform it in your name, with your sankalpa spoken aloud, and you watch the flames rise from wherever you are.

आर्द्रया रुद्रः प्रथमान एति श्रेष्ठो देवानां पतिरघ्नियानाम् । नक्षत्रमस्य हविषा विधेम मा नः प्रजां रीरिषो मोत वीरान् ॥ (Ārdrayā rudraḥ prathamāna eti śreṣṭho devānāṃ patir aghniyānām । nakṣatram asya haviṣā vidhema mā naḥ prajāṃ rīriṣo mota vīrān ॥) With Arudra, Rudra comes forth foremost, greatest among the gods and lord of the herds; we worship his star with this oblation, praying that our children and our strong ones be kept from harm.

Why Devotees Book This

Devotees born under Arudra, and families marking the star's yearly return, offer this homa for these reasons.

Alignment with your birth star

The nakshatra mantras are chanted for your name and gotra, tuning the year ahead to the star you were born beneath.

Rudra's protection

The tradition invokes Rudra as the guardian who turns his fierceness outward, shielding home, travel and livelihood.

Steadiness through change

Arudra rules upheaval and renewal. The rite is prescribed when work, address or relationships are shifting under you.

Clarity of mind

Offerings are made for calm nerves, restful sleep and a mind that does not race ahead of its own decisions.

Prosperity that holds

Ghee and grain are offered so that effort ripens into stability — earnings that stay rather than scatter.

For the whole household

Parents commonly book this for a child born in Arudra, and couples for a shared year of harmony and good fortune.

Sacred Timing

The homa carries most force when the sky itself is holding the star. These are the occasions our priests prefer.

Arudra nakshatra day each month

The moon's monthly return to Arudra is the natural day for this rite — the star's own tithi, repeated through the year.

Your janma nakshatra day

When Arudra falls in your birth month, or on the star that governs your birth, the sankalpa reaches its clearest ground.

Arudra Darshanam and Mondays

The Margazhi Arudra day sacred to Rudra, and Mondays generally, are held auspicious for offerings to him.

Dasha and bhukti turns

At the start of a Rahu period, or when an astrologer marks a transit over your birth star, the homa is offered as preparation.

What you receive

The sealing of the yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Rudra Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

48-Day Anushthan (optional)

Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum; the daily rituals of the 48-day Anushthan are performed with full devotion but are not telecast.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

Who is invoked

Rudra — the goddess of knowledge itself

Rudra is one of the Tridevi and the mother of the Vedas — the presiding deity of knowledge, learning, memory, speech, music and every art. She is depicted in white upon a white lotus, holding the veena, a book, a rosary and a water pot, with the swan of discernment beside her.

In this homa, her grace — Rudra Kataksham — is invoked through fire with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

It is the Vedic fire ritual offered to Rudra, the presiding deity of Arudra nakshatra, the sixth star of the zodiac. Ghee, samidha and specific grains are offered while the nakshatra mantras are chanted with your name, gotra and birth star. Tradition holds that honouring your janma nakshatra in fire keeps its energies favourable through the year, and Arudra — a star of storm and renewal — is honoured so its force works as protection rather than disturbance.
The rite is prescribed for alignment with your birth star, for Rudra's protection over home and livelihood, for steadiness while circumstances change, for calm and clear thinking, and for prosperity that endures. These are the purposes the tradition assigns the homa. Outcomes rest with the deity and with your own effort; what we undertake is that the rite is performed correctly, completely and in your name.
Anyone born under Arudra nakshatra, in any of its four padas. Parents book it for children born in this star. It is also taken up by those entering a Rahu dasha or bhukti, those told by an astrologer that transits are crossing their birth star, and families who observe their nakshatra homa each year as a matter of practice. There is no bar of age, gender or country.
The strongest window is the day the moon transits Arudra, which recurs each lunar month. Mondays and the Arudra Darshanam day in Margazhi are also favoured, as is your own birth-star day. Our priests fix the muhurat from your birth details and confirm the date and time with you before the fire is lit.
The priests begin with achamana, Ganapati puja and punyahavachanam, then a sankalpa naming you, your gotra and Arudra nakshatra. The kalasha is established and the deity invoked. Agni is kindled in the kunda, and oblations of cow ghee, the nakshatra samidha, havis, black and white sesame, rice and herbs are offered through the recitation of the Arudra nakshatra mantras and Rudra japa. The rite closes with purnahuti, deeparadhana, prayers for peace, and distribution of prasadam.
